The videos, reportedly captured Wednesday night in the El Sereno area, make for intense viewing; law enforcement agents are seen dragging people out of the homes, dressed in riot gear, armed with military-style guns and even using battering rams on doors.

OTTAWA—Canada next week will reveal the breadth of the emergency spending it has made during the pandemic and lay the groundwork for future stimulus and social measures, like a national childcare program, government sources told Reuters.

Canada did not release a budget for this fiscal year, which began in April, because of the economic uncertainty created by COVID-19, but in July projected a $343.2 billion deficit, the largest since World War II.

Socialist-minded millennial heirs are trying to live their values by getting rid of their money.

Lately, Sam Jacobs has been having a lot of conversations with his family’s lawyers. He’s trying to gain access to more of his $30 million trust fund. At 25, he’s hit the age when many heirs can blow their money on harebrained businesses or a stable of sports cars. He doesn’t want to do that, but by wealth management standards, his plan is just as bad. He wants to give it all away.

“I want to build a world where someone like me, a young person who controls tens of millions of dollars, is impossible,” he said.

A socialist since college, Mr. Jacobs sees his family’s “extreme, plutocratic wealth” as both a moral and economic failure. He wants to put his inheritance toward ending capitalism, and by that he means using his money to undo systems that accumulate money for those at the top, and that have played a large role in widening economic and racial inequality.

The Intimidation and Unfair Enforcement of Detroit’s Election

City election workers cheered as Republicans were dragged out by police.

The Trump campaign attempted to use legal challenges of the election in Detroit as a last-ditch effort to win the presidency. It was a fruitless effort, as the final certification in Michigan gave Biden a 154,000-vote edge. The Trump campaign withdrew the federal lawsuit November 19.

But the lawsuit’s over 100 affidavits did reveal that in Detroit, the election was conducted in a totally partisan manner, where bias, secrecy, and intimidation were omnipresent.

Minneapolis momentum is being crushed by the crime wave

The city was rebranding for a vibrant future, but today you can’t go to the grocery store without fear of being attacked.

Elaine, a front-line health care worker in Minneapolis, was putting groceries in the trunk of her car recently, in a crowded parking lot at the Uptown Kowalski’s Market, giving her high-alert system a break, as most of us do when some benign activity consumes our attention. It was 5:15 p.m.

A moment later, a car blaring loud music pulled up behind hers, trapping her at her own car’s trunk. Someone got out of the car and punched Elaine to the ground. An accomplice wrested her handbag from her arm. In the next instant, the car and assailants were gone. It was again a regular evening, just after dark, in a busy parking lot in Uptown.

The robbery had happened so fast that no one had even noticed. Elaine, my colleague’s mom, a 60-plus year-old woman, beaten and robbed, her eye already swelling shut, had to pull herself up from the ground and stumble into the store for help.

It was the summer of 1990 and my parents had taken me and my little brother to Mexico for a vacation. At 15 I was able to go to bars in Cozumel. I can’t recall if I told my parents that was where I was going, though they probably knew. As it turned out, all of the locals and even many non-American tourists were all focused on a sporting event that I, a rather voracious sports fan barely even knew existed, the World Cup. On the early ’90s versions of big screen bar TVs, I saw him for the first time, tiny and squat in his sky blue striped jersey. A magician with the ball whose name I would soon learn was Diego Armando Maradona.

You’re never going to convince me Joe Biden won fair and square, but the effort to prove voter fraud has been a mess. It’s a high bar to convince a judge that ballots should be tossed. It should be—and for the most part, the Trump team has not been successful…until now. This week, the Trump campaign scored a huge win in Nevada where they will be allowed to present evidence of fraud and make their case conceding shoddy ballots. Will it be enough? Will it meet the threshold? We shall see.

Parents at the school in Coventry raised concerns after the asylum-seeker student – who appeared to be a balding, adult male – joined the school in October.

Province expands probe to other projects following alleged $11M theft of COVID-19 relief funds

The investigation into the alleged embezzlement of $11 million of pandemic relief funds is being expanded to include past information technology projects at Queen’s Park, the Star has learned.

A Toronto couple and their two adult sons, who all worked as Ontario government computer specialists, are alleged to have been involved in the theft of millions of dollars in provincial COVID-19 aid.

Documents filed with the Ontario Superior Court say “some or all of” Sanjay Madan, Shalini Madan, their sons Chinmaya Madan and Ujjawal Madan, and their associate Vidhan Singh allegedly perpetrated “a massive fraud” to funnel cash to hundreds of bank accounts.
