John Ivison: Freeland’s magical spending won’t make inflation disappear

American writer Carl Sandburg once said politicians should have three hats: one for throwing into the ring, one for talking through and another to pull rabbits from.

Chrystia Freeland, having already made clear her ambition to succeed Justin Trudeau as prime minister, made good use of her other two hats in a speech on inflation to a Bay Street audience on Thursday.

Woman suffered ‘life-threatening’ burns after reportedly being set on fire near Kipling Station, police say

According to an email from the Toronto Police Service, a man allegedly assaulted a woman near Kipling Station. The man “repeatedly poured a liquid substance” on the woman and ignited the substance, a spokesperson for Toronto police told the Star.

I just got back from the hospital. Kipling station is about 600 yards from my front door.

Project Veritas Leaks Elon Musk‘s All-Hands Meeting with Twitter

James O’Keefe’s investigative journalism group Project Veritas has leaked a recording of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s all-hands meeting with Twitter employees. Pressed by employees on free speech, Musk answered, “I think there’s also, there’s freedom of speech and freedom of reach, so I think people should be allowed to say…pretty outrageous things that are within the balance, the law, but, but then they don’t, you know, get amplified.”

So he’s for shadow bans?

FBI Investigating Attacks On Pro-Life Centers, Organizations

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating attacks on pro-life centers and religious institutions across the United States, The Daily Wire has learned.

More than 20 pregnancy resource centers and offices of pro-life groups have been attacked or vandalized since the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion indicating that the justices are likely to overturn Roe v. Wade, according to Catholic Vote.

I bet they arrest some Proud Boy Atom Waffens wearing MAGA hats.

Rex Murphy: The smug Chrystia Freeland testifies about the Emergencies Act

Chrystia Freeland is more vexing than Justin Trudeau. This is quite a milestone. We all grant that she is smarter. But we thought he had commanded that other territory as all his own.

From the evidence to date, what should be a solemn, substantive principled hearing into the invoking of the Emergencies Act by the Trudeau government is being treated by all the relevant ministers and particularly Finance Minister Freeland, as a laugh, as some comic diversion eating up the prestigious time of so-important cabinet ministers who have so many other deeper, more powerful things to think about.

She’s the girlfriend you were happy initiated the break up with you.

Mélanie Joly’s office missed e-mail alerting them to Russian embassy party

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly’s office staff did not read an e-mail that said her department was sending a representative to a Russian embassy party – missing a chance to avert an incident that has embarrassed Canada at home and abroad, two senior government sources say.

Global Affairs Canada sent the e-mail to Ms. Joly’s chief of staff, Sandra Aubé, and four other staff members before last Friday’s Russia Day embassy party informing them that deputy chief of protocol Yasemin Heinbecker would join the festivities, the sources said.

None of Ms. Joly’s senior staff read the department e-mail, because they were busy assisting Ms. Joly, who was attending the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, the sources said. The Globe is not identifying the officials as they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.

GUNTER: Canada’s nanny state wants to label ground beef unhealthy

I’m not sure there’s as much to worry about as ranchers and the Alberta government think there is. Still, it’s the principle of the thing.

Ottawa wants to stick preachy new labels on the front of ground beef packages warning that the contents are unhealthy. (And Health Canada means unhealthy to eat even after it’s cooked, not just raw, which we all already know.)

But it’s barbecue season. It’s getting hot out.

Portland Flatlines

The streets of Portland resemble an ‘open air drug market’ after state officials’ scheme to decriminalize hard drugs led to a surge in overdose deaths, critics claim.

Law enforcement agents say that the streets of Portland are full of homeless addicts openly buying and selling drugs and that signs of drug addiction are actually increasing statewide, Fox News reported.

Photos show the desperate situation in the liberal Pacific Northwest city, where people can be seen shooting up drugs or passed out in broad daylight.

What now? ‘Defund,’ say some after Toronto police admit using more force against Black people

BLM Black Lives Real Estate Scam

What now?

After damning numbers from Canada’s largest municipal police force proving what Black and other racialized communities have known for decades — that Toronto police have indeed used disproportionate force against them — the question now is what accountability might look like.

Ask Black Lives Matter Canada co-founder Sandy Hudson and the answer is one she and countless other community activists have been calling for for years: “Defund the police.”

Leave it to the CBC to platform a crank from the BLM scam to plug a bogus report. These are not serious people.

Read an informed take on the bogus report from Bob Scale via Lorrie Goldstein

The findings and conclusions in the Toronto “Race and Identity” report and the Police Chief’s confession and apology will have repercussions for law enforcement agencies across Canada and the US.

Most of the “Race and Identity” report uses typical population-based benchmarks to measure racial disparities in policing data. This methodology produces predictable disparities for certain racial/ethnic groups. Any qualified academic researcher would have said that these quantitative disparities cannot be used to prove that Toronto police officers are engaged in discriminatory practices, just as the absence of racial disparities would not mean that the police are bias free. Unfortunately, the researcher hired to produce this report and the Chief of Police have incorrectly claimed that the statistical disparities found in the report prove conclusively that there is systemic racism in the Toronto Police Service.

Al Jazeera claims: This is the bullet that killed Shireen Abu Aqleh

The Al Jazeera network on Thursday showed what it claimed was the bullet that killed their reporter Shireen Abu Aqleh, who was shot dead during clashes between IDF soldiers and terrorists in Jenin last month, Ynet reports.

The network showed a 5.5 mm bullet, designed to pierce armor, and claimed it is used in an M4 rifle.

Al Jazeera said the bullet was marked in green, indicating it was IDF issued ammunition. However, Ynet noted that the Palestinian Arab gunmen use the same bullets, many of which were stolen from IDF bases.
