EU chief says she wants Canada to become the bloc’s 1st associate member

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Europe wants to open the door for Canada to become an “associate member” of the European Union.

Prime Minister Mark Carney listened on in the front row as von der Leyen laid out key pillars for stronger co-operation between Europe and Canada in Strasbourg, France.

In her state of the union address, she said the two must “urgently reimagine” their partnership, and move beyond just a free-trade agreement.

What weapon could the US have put into space?

What weapon could the US have put into space?

The announcement by the United States that it has deployed a space weapon in Earth’s orbit has raised questions about what weaponry is actually in space, and what role it could play in efforts by great powers to dominate that arena.

Washington has given away little in its announcement. Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink said the “on orbit” weapon was necessary to safeguard US forces against hostile enemy action, but gave no details about the weapon’s capabilities or when it was put into orbit.

The Fantasy House of Mark Carney

The Fantasy House of Mark Carney

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney now believes he is more than just the Western foil to Donald Trump and his MAGA movement—he is the global one. Accordingly, he seems determined to demonstrate to the world how to stand up to Donald Trump, to force Trump to lose the midterms, and to hurt the U.S. economy to such a degree that Trump will never again bully other nations.

Iran war effort hampered by munitions shortfalls, production ‘bottlenecks,’ Pentagon watchdog finds

The US war with Iran has led to a shortage of key munitions, which has in turn exposed “bottlenecks” in the defense industry, the War Department’s Office of Inspector General confirmed in a report released Monday.

The 44-page document specified that “production of solid rocket motors, the availability of high-grade explosives and propellants and the recruitment of skilled manufacturing labor” are the biggest logistical issues plaguing Operation Epic Fury, launched by the US against Tehran Feb. 28.

Stephen Harper says Canada had ‘no choice’ but to walk away from U.S. trade talks

Former prime minister Stephen Harper, who led Canada’s Conservative Party for over a decade, backed the federal government’s decision to walk away from trade talks with the United States “to see a trade war commence in earnest.”

Harper delivered the closing keynote to hundreds of the world’s wealthiest investors gathered in downtown Toronto for the first-of-its-kind Canada Investment Summit.

“This had to be a very difficult decision, but I do believe that our government had no choice but to take this path,” Harper said.

I bet he hasn’t read the deal either. But the CBC won’t even ask that question.

‘Welcome to hell:’ Inside the squalid prison holding Andrew Tate

Inside the Federal Detention Centre in Miami, cockroaches reportedly scuttle across the concrete floors as inmates drip with sweat in tiny rooms with no air conditioning in the oppressive Florida heat.

Somewhere inside the sprawling facility, Andrew and Tristan Tate are locked up.

The brothers were ordered by a US judge to remain detained at the facility while they await a lengthy extradition process to the UK to face charges including rape and human trafficking.

Carney’s new love-in with EU has everything to do with Trump

Carney’s new love-in with EU has everything to do with Trump

“Wouldn’t it be lovely if Canada was the 28th state of the European Union rather than the 51st state of the United States?” asked Finland’s President Alexander Stubb this summer.

The question was rather tongue-in-cheek. US President Donald Trump, who is currently locked in an escalating tariff tussle with Ottawa, has, on a number of occasions, declared his ambition to make Canada the 51st American state – causing deep offence amongst many Canadians.

On the streets with Britain’s first ‘migrant patrol’ in ‘no-go’ city centre where asylum seekers order women to ‘cover up’

Private security guards carried out their first patrol in Essex on Monday after male migrants have left women scared to go out alone.

The Reform-led county council has hired contractors to monitor migrants on the streets of Colchester, Braintree and Chelmsford – with the first walkabouts starting this week.

Locals in Colchester say that on days when asylum seekers are brought into the city from MDP Wethersfield – a former RAF base in the Essex countryside – the atmosphere can feel very different.

Canada’s Corporate Welfare Subsidies: A $50 Billion Web of Public Support

Corporate subsidies in Canada extend far beyond the headline-grabbing debates, with federal, provincial, and municipal governments collectively directing tens of billions of dollars to businesses annually.

While some measures—such as support for media organizations or tax provisions for the oil and gas sector—draw high-profile ideological debate, much of the assistance takes less visible forms, including loans, loan guarantees, grants, tax credits, bailouts, and specialized financing arrangements that are harder to track.

Canadian Outlet Discloses Paid Deal With CCP-Controlled Broadcaster to Build Support for China’s Domestic Policies

OTTAWA – Canada’s new foreign influence registry has posted its first three registrants.

Among them is The Canada Files, a self-described socialist news organization covering Canadian foreign policy, which disclosed a paid arrangement with a Chinese state broadcaster to publish two sponsored videos intended to make Canadians more supportive of China’s handling of its domestic political affairs. Britain’s media regulator has found the broadcaster ultimately controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.

Michael Higgins: Is Mark Carney using Canada to make up for Brexit?

Michael Higgins: Is Mark Carney using Canada to make up for Brexit?

Mark Carney’s admiration for the European Union is so deep that he was accused of aiding and abetting Project Fear, the campaign to stop the U.K. exiting the massive economic bloc.

As governor of the Bank of England, he failed to stop Brexit but as prime minister his Project Fear II against the U.S. has been far more successful and far more galvanizing. If Wall Street Journal is to be believed, Carney is now trying to integrate Canada into the European Union, a move that would surely entail a loss of sovereignty and independence far greater than anything we could surrender to America. The prime minister suggested on Sunday that the Journal’s reporting overstated what the government is seeking.

I think Carney is using the EU as a backdoor for China.
