Scientist called ‘paininarse’ wins £60,000 in race claim compensation

A senior NHS scientist who won a race claim after her username was changed to “paininarse” on a work spreadsheet has been awarded almost £60,000 in compensation.

Ubah Jama was considered a “troublemaker” after complaining about a fellow biochemist throwing a test tube in her direction, an employment tribunal heard.

Her alleged ill-treatment culminated in the “offensive” insertion of the phrase “paininarse” on a shared Microsoft Excel document which could be seen by colleagues across two hospitals, the tribunal heard.

Legal cocaine is coming, this Canadian startup predicts

A startup just listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange with a business model based on a provocative prediction: legal cocaine is coming.

Safe Supply Streaming Co. is betting on a so-called third wave of policy changes that would decriminalize hard drugs, following similar measures making cannabis and psychedelics more mainstream. It plans to acquire companies that could benefit, such as fentanyl test-strip makers, addiction clinics and energy drinks containing coca leaf, according to chief executive Bill Panagiotakapoulos.

This should have been a big deal, built on fulsome public information about the role, composition and structure of this centrally important body, but the announcement was reduced to an uninspiring debut, saying only that the NSC would be “a forum for strategic decision-making and for sharing analysis of intelligence in its strategic context.”
