Toronto police’s tow truck task force charges two teens in 12 separate shootings

An ongoing turf war within a small segment of Toronto’s tow truck industry has led to an increase in shootings, including 12 separate incidents police allege were carried out by two teen suspects.

At a news conference Wednesday, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw revealed the results of Project Beacon, an investigative effort to address tow truck-related crimes in the city.

He said firearm discharges and shooting events in Toronto have increased by 50 per cent compared to last year, and investigators believe that 14 of those shootings are related to the tow truck industry.

U.S. military announces $20M US grant to build cobalt refinery in Ontario

The U.S. military has made its largest move so far in a novel national-security effort to fund mining initiatives in Canada.

The Pentagon on Tuesday announced a $20 million US grant to create a cobalt refinery in northern Ontario’s Temiskaming Shores. The money will go to the Toronto-based Electra Battery Materials Corporation; the government of Canada is adding $3.6 million US ($4.9 million Cdn) of its own to the project.

Do they not know the US Military is armed?

Rioter who shouted in a police dog’s face jailed for 20 months

A rioter who shouted in a police dog’s face has been sent to prison for 20 months.

Bradley McCarthy, 34, joined an anti-immigration march and was involved in clashes with counter-protesters and police in Bristol.

McCarthy, who was heard to have a “stable family life” was one of more than 490 people to be charged in connection to the riots that spread across the country earlier this month.

WARMINGTON: Only in Toronto would illegal residents be celebrated

Just call this a party at Toronto city hall for residents who are not legally supposed to be here.

One might think encouraging illegals to attend an official gathering between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. would be the perfect time to address their illegal status, return to their country of origin, and then return when they get their documentation right.

For a Democrat, the American heartland’s normalcy is a terrifying dystopia

The Civil War tore America apart and left 600,000 dead. Still, despite its ferocity, it had at its heart only one big issue: whether the Constitution’s promise of individual liberty overrode states’ rights to govern themselves. Otherwise, Americans were much the same: the Bible, hard work, heterosexuality, the nuclear family, anti-crime, etc. America today actually faces a more profound schism than it did then because we’ve become two entirely different people. An opinion piece in the San Francisco Chronicle really hammers the point home, as a regular columnist looks at a county fair in the Heartland and sees a dystopian world.

Charter challenge launched against Ottawa for excluding mental illness from MAID

OTTAWA — A Charter challenge has been launched against the federal government over its decision not to allow those suffering solely from mental illness the ability to access an assisted-death.

On Monday, a statement of claim was issued at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice by Dying with Dignity Canada, a national charity that advocates for people’s right to access the procedure, along with two individuals diagnosed with mental disorders who say it has filled their life with suffering.

How long before conservative political beliefs are legislated as a mental illness requiring involuntary “euthanasia”.

Canadian export agency ‘hit by big losses after lending to Thames Water’

Canada’s state-backed export credit agency is reportedly nursing steep losses after lending debt-ridden Thames Water hundreds of millions of pounds.

The British utility, which has said it could run out of cash by next June, received two loans from Export Development Canada (EDC) in 2018 and 2019 after the Canadian pension fund Omers had invested.

EDC sold the loans at a deep discount in recent weeks, according to the Financial Times, which cited unnamed investors.

Thames Water has been pushed to the brink of collapse in recent months after struggling under the weight of debts built up over years by successive owners and could fall into government-handled administration if it fails to find new financing within the next 10 months.
