Canada’s economy is expanding, but the details are worth reviewing before getting too excited. Statistics Canada (Stat Can) data shows real gross domestic product (GDP) grew more than expected in Q2 2024. A dive into the details shows productivity further eroded on a per capita basis, while household spending weakened. Most growth is now government spending, accounting for a whopping 80% of the quarter. Canada increasingly resembles an economy in recession, despite not quite meeting the country’s preferred definition of one.

Times tables tests should be scrapped and grammar exams “stripped back”, teaching unions are urging the Government.
Ministers are being urged to cut down the number of tests in primary schools, which unions say lead to high levels of anxiety in children.
Tests on times tables are compulsory for all Year Four pupils at state schools in England.
Teacher’s Unions are dedicated to making children stupid.
First transgender manager ignites row by signing biologically male goalkeeper for women’s team
Sutton United, who this year appointed Lucy Clark as the first transgender manager in the top five tiers of the English female game, have ignited controversy by signing a biologically male goalkeeper for their women’s team.
Blair Hamilton, 34, has been recruited by Clark despite having previously drawn criticism from women’s rights groups for taking the place of a female goalkeeper. Sharron Davies, the former Olympic silver medallist and long-standing advocate for fairness for women in sport, described Sutton’s move as “shameful”.

Masters course renamed as academics worry term suggests ‘nationalist narratives’
The term Anglo-Saxon has been removed from a University’s module titles to tackle “nationalist narratives”.
The University of Nottingham offers leading courses in Anglo-Saxon history and literature and is the only university in the country to offer a Viking Studies course.
But in a move to “decolonise the curriculum”, professors have renamed a masters course in Viking and Anglo-Saxon Studies as Viking and Early Medieval English Studies.

In an August 26 video, Conservative Party of British Columbia candidate Gwen O’Mahony exposed that the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, which operates in the district in which she is running, is distributing free crack pipes and snorting kits at a vending machine outside its emergency room.

… Officers allege the accused was showering when someone saw him doing something indecent, prompting the suspect to threaten another person “who heard the commotion.”
Responding officers arrested the accused at the pool, and charged Maseehullah Stanikzai with indecent act and uttering threats. The charges have not been tested in court.
