Most Canadians think the country is making progress on reconciliation: poll

OTTAWA – Most Canadians believe the country is making good progress on reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, a new poll from Leger suggests.

“The extent to which people feel progress on reconciliation is being made or not has an important bearing on how they feel about the country,” said Jack Jedwab, president and CEO of the Association for Canadian Studies, which commissioned the poll.

The survey of 1,580 respondents was conducted between June 20 and 22. A margin of error cannot be associated to the survey because online polls are not considered to be truly random samples.

The draconian Online Safety Act, passed by the previous Conservative Party, is already appearing to have a negative impact on free speech in Britain. Pitched to the public as a means of preventing children from seeing pornography or other graphic content on the internet, critics of the legislation have long warned that it would be used to stifle political discourse.

Former City of Ottawa lawyer who defaced Holocaust memorial pleads guilty to mischief, gets bail

A former lawyer for the City of Ottawa who desecrated the National Holocaust Monument by splashing it with red paint and scrawling the words FEED ME in large red block letters, has pleaded guilty to mischief and been released on bail to his parents’ house.

Iain Aspenlieder, who is expected to be sentenced later this year, last month vandalized the memorial to six million Jews killed by the Nazi regime. His lawyer said Friday that the act was an attempt to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and was not motivated by hate.

I suggest they investigate whether hair dye poisoning played a role.

A business coalition is raising concerns about calls from some of Canada’s premiers for Ottawa to strengthen trade ties with China in response to U.S. tariffs, calling the move short-sighted and contrary to Canada’s interests.

The Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses Canada (CCMBC) issued a statement on July 23, warning that the proposal overlooks China’s record of “unfair” trade practices, human rights abuses, and interference in Canadian democracy.

All six Canadian venues cancel Christian musician Sean Feucht’s shows

U.S. Christian musician Sean Feucht is continuing his Canadian tour in spite of having to find new venues for all six shows.

The City of Vaughan, Ont., where Feucht was to have finished the first leg of the Let Us Worship: Revive in 25 tour on Sunday afternoon at the Dufferin District Park, confirmed to National Post that it had cancelled the special event permit “on the basis of health and safety as well as community standards and well-being.”

The Ugly Canadian is not a myth.
