Japanese want snowball fighting in Winter Olympics
Even as the 2026 Winter Games were winding up, a city in northern Japan began its own winter sports competition with ambitions that it will one day become an Olympic event: snowball fighting.
Snowball fights, or yukigassen in Japanese, are a seasonal childhood pastime in many northern countries, but in Sobetsu, Hokkaido, it’s a major event, and corporate sponsors and teams compete from across Japan and overseas.

New data released by the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) shows a troubling human trafficking trend in Waterloo Region compared to the rest of the country.
During WRPS’ latest board meeting, data presented showed that local human trafficking cases have been on the rise since 2020.
Police say it has gotten to a point where Waterloo Region cases now nearly triple the national average.

Canada plans to assist Cuba as Washington squeezes the island
…US President Donald Trump’s administration has moved to block all oil from reaching Cuba, including that from ally Venezuela, pushing up prices for food and transportation and prompting severe fuel shortages and hours of blackouts.
“We are preparing a plan to assist. We are not prepared at this point to provide any further details of an announcement,” Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said on Monday, without giving details on what such an assistance will include.

Conservatives calling for probe into asylum seekers’ abusive access to health care
OTTAWA — The Conservatives plan to put a motion before the House of Commons on Tuesday aimed at reviewing how health benefits are provided to asylum seekers and restricting who has access to those services.
The planned text of the motion, which has been shared with The Canadian Press, says the cost of the Interim Federal Health Program has more than quadrupled since the 2020 fiscal year, growing from $211 million to $896 million in 2024-25.
That data was pulled from a report by the parliamentary budget officer published earlier this month.
They should only be offered MAiD like Canadian citizens, that’ll send them packing back home.
