Toronto Unemployment Hits 317k People, More Than All of Quebec

If Greater Toronto is still ahead of the national curve, Canada may be in trouble. Statistics Canada (Stat Can) data shows the unemployment rate climbed sharply in May. Rising unemployment is a national trend, but the rapid pace at which it’s climbing can be attributed to Greater Toronto, home to a third of the increased unemployment in the past year. It’s a general trend across Southern Ontario, which has gone from the driver of the national economy to a major drag.

Most Canadians Say Home Ownership Unattainable Despite Rate Cut: Poll

Despite the Bank of Canada’s decision to drop interest rates, it’s not enough for most Canadians to get into the housing market, according to a recent poll.

On June 4 the Bank of Canada dropped its key interest rate by 0.25 percent from five percent to 4.75 percent. It was the first cut in four years.

However, in a June 11 survey by polling firm Ipsos, eight in 10 (82 percent) of respondents said that even if interest rates drop further, homeownership will still be unattainable for them. Sixty-two percent said they’ve given up on ever owning a home.

Douglas Todd: Disease spreads by overcrowding, made worse by housing unaffordability

As if there are not enough problems with the exorbitant cost of housing, now we must face up to how it contributes to poor health.

Overcrowding within houses and apartments helps spread disease, according to studies in the U.S., Britain and Australia.

Overcrowding, which is calculated on the number of people living together per square foot, could be at its worst in almost a century in English-speaking countries.

Message From Europe: Immigration is the defining issue of our time — and voters know it. Will the West’s elites listen?

As yesterday’s European election results came in, media coverage began to take on a distinct sense of dread. “A far right surge upends national politics,” blared one CNN headline. “Far right gains deal stunning defeats to France’s Macron and Germany’s Scholz,” declared PBS. A New York Times title sought to strike a relatively optimistic tone, finding solace in the fact that “In E.U. Elections, the Center Holds” — but, it noted glumly, “the Far Right Still Wreaks Havoc.”

Indeed, the suite of nationalist, anti-immigration parties that the media consistently insists on describing as “far right” made gains that were “even more stunning than many analysts predicted,” CBS noted. While the nationalists did not muster enough votes to wrest control of the European Union from the body’s current center-right majority, its substantial gains were yet another sign of surging popular momentum for a coalition that was regarded as fringe and marginal just a few years ago — particularly in a number of the E.U.’s most powerful and influential nations.

FIRST READING: Canada’s 2.7 million temporary workers may not take kindly to deportation

As Canadian governments pursue early efforts to bring down the country’s unprecedentedly high rate of temporary migrants, it’s not being taken well by the thousands of students and foreign workers who are effectively being told to leave.

Canadians were betrayed.

The Liberal government saw votes and opened the immigration floodgates.

Then the LPC outsourced immigration entryways to the corporate class whose eyes lit up in dollar signs at the prospect of a pool of cheap wage depressing labour and any other scam that came to mind.

Both the Liberal Party and the Corporate sector remain very happy to profit at your expense while destroying Canada.

And finally few ever get deported from Canada.

StatsCan: One-third of Canadians will be foreign-born by 2041

A briefing note from Statistics Canada says based on current immigration trends, “one in three” Canadian residents will foreign-born come 2041, per Blacklock’s Reporter.

Canadian-born residents would become a minority in Toronto, the February 7 brief said.

Currently foreign-born residents account for 23% of Canada’s population, which the brief notes is “by far the highest of the G7 countries.” By comparison, only 14% of US residents are foreign-born.

HUH? CBS Host Margaret Brennan Flummoxed at Public Support for Mass Deportations

The TV networks take public opinion polls, and sometimes they’re quite upset at what they find. On Sunday’s Face the Nation on CBS, host Margaret Brennan was flummoxed at how a strong majority of Americans support mass deportations. Brennan thinks that’s wildly impractical. She doesn’t seem to think it’s wildly impractical to allow all of these people untrammeled entry into America.

Foreign-Born Workers Dominate U.S. Job Gains While Native-Born Americans Struggle

Though President Joe Biden touts the economy under his administration, polls consistently show Americans are sour on the state of economic affairs — probably because, as economist E.J. Antoni told The Federalist, “the economy has only been adding jobs that are held by foreign-born workers while native-born Americans are losing jobs.”

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for the month of May shows that foreign-born workers in the United States gained 637,000 jobs year-over-year, while native-born workers lost roughly 299,000.

Century Initiative’s 100 million population goal by year 2100 was meant to be provocative – and isn’t a target – CEO says

The head of the Century Initiative, an influential non-profit think tank that wants to see Canada’s population grow to 100 million by 2100, is softening emphasis of its controversial headline goal, saying it is not a target it is aiming to reach and was created to be “provocative” and bold.

The 100 million population figure was meant to galvanize public debate about the best way to foster growth in Canada, chief executive Lisa Lalande said in an interview.

Trudeau’s Canada: Average asking rental price reaches record high

The average asking rental price in Canada surpassed $2,200 to reach a record high in May, according to a new report.

Published Thursday by Rentals.ca and Urbanation(opens in a new tab), the report found that the average monthly asking price for all residential rentals increased by 9.3 per cent year-over-year to hit $2,202 in May.
