Reports today suggest Andy Burnham has been invited to send ministers to cross-party talks on a private member’s bill which would make marriage and sexual intercourse between first cousins illegal. The bill, tabled by Conservative MP Luke Evans in June, follows a similar piece of legislation by fellow Tory MP Richard Holden which received widespread attention last year. But the Evans bill is the first to address not just marriage but sex between first cousins.

Eyewitnesses reported that al-Hasan, who had been in contact with an ISIS handler on Telegram the day before the attack, had shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ during the assault.2 One of his victims, Ines Wallusch, a 56-year-old pharmacist, bled to death in the arms of her husband after suffering a fatal stab wound to her carotid artery.

Portuguese President António José Seguro has officially signed into law a bill banning face-concealing attire in public spaces, with the move seen targeting the full-face Islamic veils like the burqa and niqab.

Addressing the national debate, President Seguro framed the decision around human interaction, stating: “The face should be considered a central element of human identity and communication.”
