There have been at least 10 potential threats by Iran to kidnap or kill British or UK-based people this year.
The figure was revealed by the head of MI5, Ken McCallum, in his annual update on threats facing the UK.
Mr McCallum also warned the UK “must be ready for Russian aggression for years to come”.
But he said Russia had suffered a strategic setback after a mass expulsion of its spies around the world in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine.
A Tehran court on Sunday issued a death sentence linked to “riots,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website said.

A Quebec-based company says it stopped selling aircraft engines to Iran in 2019 and is “deeply concerned” by reports that some of the motors are being used in Iranian military drones, including at least one flown by Russia in Ukraine.

Iranian security forces have opened fire on crowds near Tehran marking the 40th day of mourning for a woman shot dead while protesting, witnesses say.
Videos showed thousands walking along roads to reach the grave in Karaj of Hadis Najafi, who has become a symbol of the anti-government unrest in Iran.
State-run media say “rioters” killed a militiaman and injured 10 police.
But witnesses told the BBC that security forces attacked protesters with shotguns, tear gas and machetes.
