The Toronto condo market is imploding during a housing crisis. Here’s how we got into this mess

There are two ways of interpreting the continuing decline of new condo sales — a trend that somehow achieved uncharted lows, according to information on second-quarter activity released earlier this week by Urbanation.

The firm, which tracks the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) housing market, reported that just 1,688 condos sold between April and June, a 66 per cent decline from the same period in 2023, marking the lowest sales rate in a generation (except for the first few months of the pandemic) — and all this despite overwhelming evidence of a housing affordability crisis.

A terror attack occurred near the Gaza border Kibbutz of Netiv Ha’asara on Monday, the IDF and police said.

“A suspect arrived at the entrance of Netiv HaAsara, exited his vehicle, and threatened with a knife members of the community’s rapid response team operating in the area,” the IDF later stated of the incident.

The knife-wielding terrorist was thwarted after the rapid response team opened fire on the suspect.

The Epidemic Of Antisemitism In Canada

The toxic effects of the Hamas’ October 7 massacre in Israel have spilled over into Canada in the form of a sharp intensification of antisemitic incidents.

As Deborah Lyons, Canada’s former ambassador to Israel and now its special envoy on preserving Holocaust remembrance and combating antisemitism, said recently, “It’s clear from the data we’re seeing, particularly coming from police units across Canada, that there’s a huge increase in antisemitism in terms of hate crimes happening. I would say the level of antisemitism now in Canada is at an all-time high. It’s unprecedented.”

Anger privilege

If you want to know who has privilege in a society and who doesn’t, follow the anger. There are people in this country (and in Israel, ed.) who can safely express their anger. And those who can’t.

If you were angry that Trump (or Bibi) won, your anger was socially acceptable in certain circles. If you were angry that Biden took over, it wasn’t.

Not all anger is created equal. Some anger is privileged rage.

Adidas pulls ‘unacceptable’ Bella Hadid advert

Adidas has pulled a shoe campaign featuring the Palestinian model and Israel critic Bella Hadid after it caused anger among Jewish communities.

Hadid was pictured modelling a remake of trainers first released in 1972 to mark the Munich Olympics, an event marred by tragedy when Palestinian terrorists killed 11 members of Israel’s Olympic team and a West German policeman.

Israel should evacuate settlements, pay reparations, ICJ says

The International Court of Justice, the top judicial arm of the United Nations, said Friday that Israel should bring an end to its illegal occupation of Palestinian territory, cease new settlement activity, evacuate existing settlements and pay reparations to Palestinians who have lost land and property.

The court, based in The Hague, said Israel is responsible for “systematic discrimination” against Palestinians based on race or ethnicity and has breached the right of Palestinians to self-determination.

The Biden administration’s plan to “revitalize” the Palestinian Authority (PA) is being interpreted by Palestinian leaders as permission to form an alliance with the murderers and rapists of the Iran-backed terrorist group Hamas.

Israel rejects Palestinian state in blow to Biden

Israel’s parliament has voted in favour of a resolution rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian state, in a sharp rebuff to mounting US and Arab pressure.

The vote on Wednesday came a week before Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, will visit Washington, where he is due to address Congress. Democratic lawmakers sitting in the US legislative body have been critical of Israel over the war in Gaza.

Former safety minister wants ‘protective zones’ for MPs’ offices as threats increase from that vote bloc the Liberal party covets

OTTAWA – Former public safety minister Marco Mendicino is calling for the creation of “protective zones” around political constituency offices to shield members of Parliament and their staff from a rising tide of threatening behaviour.

Mendicino, a Toronto Liberal MP, said under the plan anyone who intimidated or otherwise harassed people within the buffer zone of perhaps 50 to 100 metres would be subject to harsher criminal penalties including jail time.
