However big the headline change in the vote between the past two elections, drill down into two demographic pockets of Britain and you find staggering shifts.
It all centres around the relationships between the Labour Party and not just Muslim voters, but Jewish voters too.
It leaves a party in government that has made progress in winning back trust among people from one faith group while suddenly finding itself with a lot of work to do to win back many members of the other.

On October 8, as the world was beginning to comprehend what had just happened in southern Israel, most decent people – including many who would go on to decry Israel’s retaliatory campaign – expressed genuine horror at what Gaza’s Islamist barbarians had done. But a substantial minority was openly cheering. Not just in Turkey and Iran, but in Toronto and London.
In these cities, Muslims and non-Muslims alike lost no time in congregating and marching to chants of “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” and other slogans known to glorify the disappearance of Israel. Some of those making merry sported the image of the paragliders used by Hamas to land in Israel just a day or two before. I cannot imagine the pain and disgust that friends and relatives of the victims must have felt on seeing those displays.
The Iranian regime is rapidly pursuing acquiring nuclear weapons. This breakout must be prevented. Iran’s regime poses a danger at least as dangerous as Hitler’s if he had possessed them. Given the Iranian leadership’s ideological extremism, combined with its strategic ambitions and regional influence, the potential for regional and global instability that could result cannot be overstated. Allowing Iran to obtain nuclear weapons will simply increase the risk of a Middle Eastern nuclear arms race and devastating global conflicts.

Board director of organization that will help decide how Google’s $100M is distributed regrets her anti-Israel retweets
After Google picked an organization to help decide how $100 million in funds will be distributed among Canadian news outlets, the organization’s independent board director recently expressed regret over sharing apparently antisemitic posts online in a statement to the National Post.
“I acknowledge that some of the content I reshared on social media adds to the pain of Jewish communities and I apologize for that unreservedly,” said Sadia Zaman. She was appointed independent board director of the Canadian Journalism Collective (CJC) earlier in June to distribute $100 million annually to Canadian journalism organizations.
Regrets? I bet.
Former senior official of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and activist Khaled Barakat, who is based in Canada, wrote in an article published in the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar on July 2, 2024, praising the “steadfastness” of the “courageous” armed resistance of Lebanese Hizbullah, Palestinian jihadi factions, and Yemen’s Houthi Ansar Allah Movement against the U.S. and Israel. The piece was also published in English on the website of Masar Badil, or the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, an Anti-Israel, pro-Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) NGO led by Barakat.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is urging Israel’s president to avoid accelerating the conflict with Lebanese Hezbollah, citing concern for civilians already at risk from the Islamist terrorist group’s rockets.
In a July 4 call with President of Israel Isaac Herzog, Mr. Trudeau “voiced Canada’s concerns over further escalation along Israel’s northern border, which Hezbollah continues to bombard with rockets,” according to a readout provided by his office.
A warning of an imminent Hamas attack before the October 7 massacre that went unheard was revealed during a Thursday night N12 report.
The alert was written by a non-commissioned officer from Unit 8200, known as “V,” who, according to previous reports, had sent additional warnings to high-ranking officers in IDF Intelligence to prevent the Hamas attack.
Shortly before October 7, “V” sent a coded email stating, “The sword is coming – it is time to warn the people,” in an attempt to alert once more, hoping someone would take notice.

Liberal MP Anthony Housefather has been named the federal government’s new special adviser on Jewish community relations and antisemitism.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office says Housefather will advise Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and ministers on the federal government’s efforts to “combat antisemitism and ensure Jewish Canadians are able to live with vibrancy, security, and dignity.”
Housefather’s appointment comes after splits opened up in the Liberal government caucus over the Israel-Hamas war. It also raises questions about how Housefather’s role will differ from that of Deborah Lyons, the government’s special envoy on preserving Holocaust remembrance and combating antisemitism.

There was something for every group to latch onto in Ontario Superior Court Justice Markus Koehnen’s decision granting an injunction to clear out the pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Toronto. For the university, as well as for Jewish groups, Jewish students, and members of the wider U of T community, there was the obvious: students and their allies had to pack up their tents and move out by 6 p.m. Wednesday. The decision was unsurprising. King’s College Circle, where the activists had set up camp for the past two months, is U of T property.
Western University has given pro-Palestinian protesters the weekend to voluntarily clear out their encampment, saying if they do so the school “will not pursue disciplinary action against students or employees” who took part.
However, an online post from university president Alan Shepard also warned that “if a student or an employee engaged in violence, property damage, building barricades, unauthorized entry into buildings, harassment or discrimination, they will be held accountable.”
With Pride celebrations in St. John’s about to get underway, the announcement of the grand marshal for this year’s parade has been met with mixed reactions.

A recent report revealed that Islam is the largest minority religion in 129 of the 220 most marginal seats in this UK General Election.
The influence of marginal seats has been highlighted by Rishi Sunak in the run up to the vote, suggesting that a small number of disillusioned conservatives are all it would take to deliver a hung parliament.
