Authorities in France have arrested and charged eight individuals, including two police officers, believed to have been a part of an elaborate forgery scheme that helped hundreds of illegal migrants obtain official French residence permits.

After having operated for roughly two years, the tight-knit network’s scheme was finally brought to an end on Monday, June 5th when investigators from the Sub-Directorate for Combating Irregular Migration (SDLII) raided numerous residences and locations relevant to the case, arresting the suspects and seizing fake identity documents, state-of-the-art laser printers, loads of cash, computers, and other tools of the trade, the French news outlet TF1 INFO reports.

European countries are still feeling the pinch of being cut off from Russian gas as the German Federal Network Agency, the Bundesnetzagentur, has revealed that the country will be dependent on purchasing electricity this winter from neighbouring France, relying on French nuclear power.

Police in France’s Avignon city are looking into several posters that depict French President Emmanuel Macron as Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. As many as 30 posters were placed on about 120 billboards in Avignon city depicting Macron in a suit and moustache. The caricature posters bore digits “49.3” and greying hair. The numbers pertain to an article of the Constitution that was utilised to pass pension reform legislation in the National Assembly.
