Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested and charged six individuals in a theft investigation in Brampton, according to Peel Regional Police (PRP).
This comes after, last December, the police service became aware of a significant increase in thefts of butter and ghee, a type of clarified butter, from grocery stores in Peel. Police say the stolen products were worth more than $60,000.
To combat the issue, police established Project Flaherty, and as a result, three people were charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, including:
Vishavjeet Singh, a 22-year-old man of no fixed address
Sukmander Singh, a 23-year-old man from Brampton
Dalwal Sidhu, a 28-year-old man from Brampton
Police also charged three other men with Theft Under $5,000, including:
Navdeep Chaudhary, a 22-year-old man from Brampton
Kamaldeep Singh, a 38-year-old man of no fixed address
Harkerat Singh, a 25-year-old man of no fixed address
“Neither & are saying what the drug-border conflict is about out loud, so I guess I’ll do it.
This is about ’s trucking industry & Ontario’s truck driving schools that popped up overnight.”

Knife crime has hit a record high in multiple police force areas across England and Wales, official data show.
Knife offences have reached their highest level since records began in 2011 in seven areas, accounting for 27 per cent of the population or 16 million out of 65 million people, according to the data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
These include the Metropolitan Police, Britain’s biggest force, where knife crime offences increased by 18 per cent to 16,521 incidents in the year to September, more than 2,000 more than the previous record of 14,025 in 2019.

On an unseasonably hot September day in 2023, a Surrey police officer spotted Daniel Cluett on an electric standup scooter, helmetless and allegedly riding into oncoming traffic.
RCMP officers caught up with him outside the Lookout Shelter on 135A Avenue, where they alleged he was hanging with “other individuals in front of a No Loitering sign.”
They ran his name in a police database and learned that “he was the suspect in a file from the night before where a firearm was pointed at an individual and had extensive drug and weapon possession files.”
Toronto’s bylaw officers will no longer crack down on cannabis stores that are operating illegally.
The head of Toronto’s licensing department, Carleton Grant, made it clear during Wednesday’s budget committee meeting that due to the lack of funding and dangers of dealing with criminal activity surrounding these storefronts, bylaw officers are “no longer effective” in stifling these shops from running.
