It is encouraging to see that the Conservative party has announced its shadow cabinet, as the party is in dire need of revitalization. Its election campaign was feeble and void of the slightest daring. It presented no core contrast with the Liberals and did not provide much of a counterpoint to the disastrous government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

OTTAWA — Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu has apologized for sharing misinformation about the severity of COVID-19 and the safety and efficacy of vaccines against the disease.

In a written statement released Tuesday, Gladu called her remarks “inappropriate.”

“Upon reflection, I recognize how dangerous it is to share misinformation about the severity of COVID-19 and the safety and efficacy of vaccines,” she said

Erin O’Toole insists the Conservative caucus is united behind his leadership.

But can he be as confident about the party’s grassroots?

The reaction from a handful of third-party organizations, which represent swaths of the Conservative faithful, suggests the answer is likely a no.

“If they keep throwing their base under the bus, there’s not going to be anyone on the bus,” said Sheldon Clare, president and CEO of the National Firearms Association, adding that he remains a Conservative member for “right now.”

I suggest Conservatives look elsewhere for a political home and westerners should give serious consideration to separatist parties. The CPC braintrust will keep their leftward course. Another version of O’Toole is what to expect from any replacement so they may as well keep him as leader.

As for me? Won’t be O’Tooled again!

OTTAWA — Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole should show leadership on mandatory vaccinations and show any of his unvaccinated MPs the door, says former prime minister and Conservative leader Brian Mulroney.

Mulroney said that if he was the leader today, he would require all of his MPs to roll up their sleeves and receive the COVID-19 vaccine, calling it a “no-brainer.”

Knives are out it seems. O’Toole is just fine as leader of the newly scrubbed notreallyconservative party.  They should leave him in place. Attempting to pretend the CPC are “born again conservatives” by ousting O’Toole just won’t play any longer.

O’Toole bet the farm on leading the election by claiming he could capture the squishy middle. He failed and should be replaced. Here is my baker’s dozen reasons why…

OTTAWA — The former MP leading the review into the Conservatives’ election performance says it will examine how Tories lost votes to Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada.

… Following the Sept. 20 election, University of Calgary economics professor Trevor Tombe shared an analysis showing 25 seats where together, the Conservative and PPC vote was greater than the winner’s share.

Cumming said his analysis will look at the how other parties performed, particularly in ridings where Conservatives were locked in a tight race.

The national council of the Conservative Party has suspended elected Ontario councillor Bert Chen for two months for launching the petition to recall Erin O’Toole as party leader.

“Following complaints by grassroots members of the Conservative Party of Canada about the conduct of national councillor Bert Chen, national council exercised its authority under Article 8.13 of the party’s constitution to suspend Mr. Chen from national council for up to 60 days,” said Conservative Party president Robert Batherson in an emailed statement to The Hill Times.

Perhaps it’s time for the Conservative party to part ways with Alberta. Sit down on the couch, engage in a frank discussion about the relationship, and agree that it’s no longer working out the way both parties had hoped. While they enjoyed many happy years as partners, the sad fact is that their interests have evolved in such a way that neither is getting the satisfaction they once did.
