More than 50,000 daily coronavirus cases have been reported in the UK for the first time since mid-January.

There were 51,870 cases recorded – the highest figure since 15 January – and 49 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

From Monday, lockdown rules will end in England – although some guidance will remain.

Earlier, England’s chief medical officer warned hospital admissions could hit “scary numbers”.

Prof Chris Whitty said the number of people in hospital with Covid was doubling roughly every three weeks.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in the strongest terms yet Thursday that the province will not create a vaccine passport that would allow people to signal to businesses and other organizations that they have been vaccinated.

“The answer is no, we’re not gonna do it. We’re not gonna have a split society,” Ford told reporters in response to a question about creating vaccine passports Thursday at the first press conference he has held in some time.

You may be asking, wait, what receipt? It’s understandable if you were so excited after getting your second shot that you forgot to meticulously file away the piece of paper you should have received that confirmed you’re double dosed, along with other personal information and details about the vaccine itself.

Now, with some businesses saying they’ll be asking potential customers to prove their vaccination status for entry, that little piece of paper suddenly seems much more important.

Luckily I found mine in the car the other day.

Already, there was a requirement to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test in order to enter nightclubs. From 21 July, this will be extended to cultural centres and leisure venues with capacities of more than 50 people. From August, it will be extended to bars, restaurants, planes, hospitals, retirement homes, shopping centres and long-distance train journeys. These restrictions will also apply to all workers in these sectors, who, in effect, must be vaccinated in order to work.
