The trial of Cardinal Becciu could destroy the reputation of the Holy See

The most corrupt nation state in Western Europe occupies only 120 acres of land and has fewer than 1,000 residents. But its capacity for initiating criminal behaviour, and the global consequences of the financial and sexual scandals in which it’s entangled, are hugely out of proportion to its size.

That’s because, around the world, roughly a billion people traditionally regard the state’s geriatric absolute monarch as God’s representative on earth. They may have been aware that, for centuries, a few bad apples in the administration have betrayed the monarch’s trust by embezzling money. But the notion that the whole state was slowly turning into a criminal enterprise would have struck them as ridiculous, even sacrilegious.

Canadians call upon Trudeau to publicly condemn church burnings

Ontarians are taking a stand against the chain of church burnings that has devastated communities across the country. Grassroots movement Civic Revival announced that they are holding an event in Mississauga this Saturday, August 7, to “Stop the Burning of Churches in Canada.”

Canadian priest claims abuse of indigenous children is ‘fake news’

A Canadian priest has been banned by the Manitoba archdiocese from “publicly teaching” after making outrageous claims during sermons, saying that the well-documented abuse of children at residential schools is “fake news” and survivors are only saying they were abused to get money.

Latest vandalism of baby Jesus statue ‘just one small incident among others,’ Sudbury church says

A church in Greater Sudbury, Ont., says vandalism to a well-known statue is just one of many problems it’s been having.

The statue of Mary and baby Jesus was damaged last month at Ste-Anne-des-Pins Catholic Church on Beech Street. The same statue was damaged six years ago, and the temporary repair at the time made national headlines.

UK Catholic Weekly ‘The Tablet’ Touts ‘Dante’s Debt to Islam’

In Dante’s “Divine Comedy,” according to a feature published Thursday in the British Catholic weekly The Tablet, “the Prophet Muhammad, along with four popes, is pictured suffering the torments of Hell.” However, as far as The Tablet is concerned, the big news in this 700-year-old literary masterpiece is not that, but a “less well-known” aspect of the epic poem: “how much Dante’s masterpiece owes to the vibrant culture of early medieval Islam.” Well, of course. All over what used to be known as Christendom, the best and the brightest are eagerly twisting themselves into all sorts of knots in order to argue that Islam has always been a part of the West, and not as a historic adversary, either, but as an integral element of Western culture. Why shouldn’t The Tablet join the party?

US media shamefully justified a string of Canadian church burnings

One day this month in Canada, 10 Catholic churches were vandalized in a single city, Calgary. In the last month, arsonists and vandals have attacked dozens of Canadian churches, burning some entirely to the ground.

America has 70.5 million Catholics; Canada, with just over a 10th of the population, has close to 13 million. So this is a big story. Yet the US media aren’t interested in reporting our northern neighbor’s plague of church burnings — except to suggest it’s understandable.

Anti-Christian Hysteria Has Grown Into Church-Burning Terror, And People Might Be Next

Overall more than two dozen churches in Canada have been targeted over the past few weeks — and people are cheering it on. Not just anonymous people, either: On June 30, Harsha Walia, the executive director of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association, responded to a story of another church arson, saying “Burn it all down.”

Former Catholic Priest: Don’t Expect the Bishops to Rebuke Biden. They’ve Lost Their Moral Authority

Ray Gardella, a former Catholic priest and author of the new book Jesus Versus Christianity, told PJ Media that it is extremely unlikely the U.S. Roman Catholic bishops will rebuke President Joe Biden or prevent him from taking Communion in its forthcoming statement on the Eucharist. Gardella said the Catholic Church — along with Christian churches in general — has lost its moral authority and often sacrifices the gospel of Jesus to follow the secular culture.

The Meaning Of The Native Graves

It is very important to note that the entire story is made up. First, we have always known that many children died in the residential schools, which were active through the 19th and 20th centuries. Child mortality was relatively high during that period to begin with; Indian mortality overall was astronomically high; and the Church-run schools for native children were systemically underfunded by the government, resulting in subpar facilities and inadequate medical care. Second, the sites almost certainly include the graves of Christian adults from the neighboring communities, as Chief Cadmus Delorme of the Cowessess First Nation admitted with respect to the Marieval Indian Residential School, where an estimated 751 burials were detected by radar last month. The “mass graves” of public hysteria are, in fact, the ordered and intentional burial sites of people we always knew were dead, and who died of more or less natural causes. In more literate times, we might have called that a cemetery.
