Others walked a fine line between protecting free speech rights and tamping down incendiary language.” Note well that what was cracked down upon was “support.”
Quebec Premier François Legault has steered his government toward yet another divisive ideological debate by declaring his intention to move swiftly to protect campus free speech from anti-racism activists.
The contentious part of this debate is not the merits of academic freedom per se. It’s widely accepted that scholars should be able to debate ideas without fear of repercussion from the powerful, or the popular.
Things turn controversial when it comes to identifying what, exactly, is threatening this ideal.

‘Glaring gap’ in addressing anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism in RCMP’s new ‘cultural humility’ course, experts say
A mandatory online training course called “Cultural Awareness and Humility” that was rolled out last fall for all RCMP members and touted by the commissioner as an example of the force’s efforts to modernize misses the mark on many levels, according to experts who have reviewed the program for the Star.
One glaring gap, they say, is the lack of content addressing institutionalized racism, particularly anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism. Instead, the training emphasizes only implicit biases and reforming individual attitudes and behaviours.
Some noted that a section on the RCMP’s role in colonization was given short shrift — just three paragraphs.
…A slew of English literature teachers told the School Library Journal (SLJ) how they were ditching the likes of “Hamlet,” “Macbeth” and “Romeo and Juliet” to instead “make room for modern, diverse, and inclusive voices.”

No doubt the oppression against Jews during the 1930s was of a much higher degree and based on a pronounced bigotry exclusively against Jews.

Her effort is part of a larger woke movement called #DisruptTexts.
The New York Times is an influential newspaper with a worldwide readership and 130 Pulitzer Prizes for excellence in journalism to its name. It is known to have a liberal bias, but it has still generally been recognized for reporting the news, rather than for making it.
This month, however, the Times itself has been the stuff of headlines. Cancel culture is reaching disturbing heights all around, and the Times is at the centre of many of the stories.
