They often have shared phone booths at the end of the street to use when necessary and at their places of work. Have we learned anything since 2015?

I was in North Macedonia (then just Macedonia) in the spring of 2016 at the height of the migrant crisis. The otherwise politically inconspicuous Balkan country had been placed at the center of international affairs thanks to its geographic position on the route between the Middle East and Western Europe. Images of the supposed refugees clashing with Macedonian police forces helped to brighten the spotlight.

Footage has emerged of activists clashing with law enforcement while trucks containing weapons arrive under police escort ahead of a massive arms fair in London, to which 30,000 international delegates have been invited.

… Protesters waved Palestinian flags and slammed the UK’s relationships with “human rights-abusing countries” including Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Antiwar Palestinians? That’s a new one.

On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, let’s remember the brave men and women who fought back against al-Qaeda.

It’s the 20th anniversary of one of the darkest days of modern times. We all know what happened. We’ve witnessed it over and over, on a loop, the gleaming machines of the modern age transformed into weapons against the greatest city on Earth. That spectacle of death is once again everywhere. Once more we are invited to feel the only thing you’re meant to feel about 9/11 – shock, dread, a visceral sense of powerlessness in the face of this most apocalyptic of terror attacks. But there’s something else we can feel too, and which we should insist on feeling today especially: pride. Pride in the heroes who, in their various different ways, stood up to the Islamist death cult that visited America that day.

Record-High Use of Mail-In Ballots Could Mean No Clear Winner on Election Night: Elections Canada Official

Record-high numbers of mail-in ballots in this federal election may well leave Canadians wondering who won when they go to bed, hours after the polls have closed on Sept. 20, if there are a lot of tight races.

“In places where the races are tight, we may not know who won on election night,” Elections Canada spokesperson Natasha Gauthier told The Epoch Times. “We may not have an outcome.”

With only 10 days to go before the election, polls show the Conservatives and Liberals in what is essentially a dead heat.

Private military contractors outnumbered US troops on the ground during most of both conflicts. And defense industry stocks soared

While Washington bickers about what, if anything, has been achieved after 20 years and nearly $5tn spent on “forever wars”, there is one clear winner: the US defense industry.

In Iraq and Afghanistan, the American military relied to an unprecedented degree on private contractors for support in virtually all areas of war operations. Contractors supplied trucks, planes, fuel, helicopters, ships, drones, weapons and munitions as well as support services from catering and construction to IT and logistics. The number of contractors on the ground outnumbered US troops most years of the conflicts. By the summer of 2020, the US had 22,562 contractor personnel in Afghanistan – roughly twice the number of American troops.

Hurricane Ida ripped through the southern United States at the end of August. Louisiana was hit hard especially whole chunks of the state virtually lost power. Yet, parishes are slowly getting their power back now. Still, residents wondered where the hell was the federal response. One wondered where Joe Biden was during the aftermath.

“Where’s the president? Where’s FEMA?” she asked. And this was on CNN which does everything it can to make President Dementia look good.

Jenn M. Jackson, an assistant professor at Syracuse University’s political science department, took issue with the way people are discussing the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

Jackson, who has a verified Twitter account and describes herself as “a queer genderflux androgynous Black woman, an abolitionist, [and] a lover of all Black people,” tweeted that she was “really disturbed by how many white pundits and correspondents talk about” 9/11.

It was an eerie scene.

But for the activity of the rescue and recovery personnel and the rumbling machinery they used, it was a still, quiet night. Too still and quiet for Manhattan at any hour. This part of the city was closed for blocks around to all but those with passes indicating they should be here.

I was one of them, and at this moment I stood atop FDNY Engine 10 Ladder 10 looking out on what had once been the World Trade Center as one of the firefighters explained the operations taking place before us under something like stadium lights.

Vancouver residents supportive of the Chinese Communist Party are promoting the Liberals in Canada’s general election for the 44th Parliament on September 20.

Furthermore, Richmond Conservative MP Kenny Chiu — who was sanctioned by China in March — says there is a concerted effort to spread misinformation about him.

This came as a virtual throw-away item in a NatPo collection of odds and ends election news. Why it hasn’t received wider coverage is beyond my pay level.

9/11 anniversary: From United to Disunited States

It’s almost a cliche, hackneyed even. A big event happens, and people say they will never forget where they were when they heard about this or that.

But I suspect nearly everyone around the world above the age of 30 really does remember where they were when they heard about, then watched in real time, the most audacious, most dreadful terrorist attack on the United States unfold.
