Burger King worker, 16, is shot dead in botched drive-thru robbery that ‘SHE staged with her co-worker best friend and girl’s father as the robber’

A teenager who was working the drive-thru at a Milwaukee Burger King when she was shot and killed in an apparent robbery may have staged the incident with her best friend and her best friend’s father who acted as the robber, court documents allege.

Niesha Harris-Brazell, 16, was working a shift with her best friend, Mariah Edwards, on January 2, when she was found fatally shot inside the fast-food joint.

Just a few minutes prior, surveillance footage caught a man in a red hoodie and a facemask waving a pistol around and demanding money as Harris-Brazell frantically took money out of the cash register and cried for help.

China’s coal production hit record levels in 2021

China’s coal production reached record levels last year as the state encouraged miners to ramp up their fossil fuel output to safeguard the country’s energy supplies through the winter gas crisis.

The world’s biggest coal producer and consumer mined 384.67m tonnes of the fossil fuel last month, easily topping its previous record of 370.84m tonnes set in November, after the government called for miners to work at maximum capacity to help fuel the country’s economic growth.

Official government figures show that China’s coal binge also spurred the country to record high coal output over the year as a whole. Chinese coal production climbed to an all-time high of 4.07bn tonnes, up 4.7% on the previous year, in a blow to climate campaigners months after the UN’s Cop26 climate talks in Glasgow.

Opioids and the Unattached Male

Policymakers should understand that the drug-overdose crisis is a crisis of single men

The United States now averages about 275 drug-related deaths per day, largely from synthetic opioids such as fentanyl. Many are aware by now that the spike in drug overdoses has hit white men without a college degree hardest (though black men are, unfortunately, gaining ground in this area). But one factor continues to be underdiscussed: it is disproportionately a crisis of single men.

Moral Panic, Class, and Our ‘Woke’ Media

“Once a tool to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable, today American journalism comforts the comfortable, speaks power to truth, and insists on an orthodoxy that protects the interests of the elites in the language of a culture war whose burden is given to the working class to bear,” writes Batya Ungar-Sargon in her new book.

China’s population growth rate falls to 61-year low

China’s population growth rate has fallen to its lowest level in six decades, barely outnumbering deaths in 2021 despite major government efforts to increase population growth and stave off a demographic crisis.

Across China, 10.62 million babies were born in 2021, a rate of 7.52 per thousand people, the national bureau of statistics said on Monday. In the same period 10.14 million deaths were recorded, a mortality rate of 7.18 per thousand, producing a population growth rate of just 0.34 per thousand head of population.

New Book Claims Jewish Notary May Have Betrayed Anne Frank’s Family to the Nazis

A new book based on an investigation by a team led by a former FBI agent has concluded that Holocaust diarist Anne Frank’s family may have been betrayed to the Nazis by a Jewish notary who collaborated with the German occupiers.

Anne and her family hid from the Nazis during most of the war, but were captured in August 1944 after being betrayed by a still-unknown informant. They were sent to several concentration camps, and Anne died in Bergen-Belsen shortly before it was liberated by the Allies. Her diary, published after the war, became a classic of Holocaust literature.

Gallup: “Dramatic shift” in electorate in 2021 — away from Dems

Will the 2022 midterms produce a red wave … or a red wedding for Democrats? Based on this 14-point swing in the gap for party registration since Joe Biden took office, better work on your RSVPs and butcher’s aprons. Gallup’s latest look at the composition of the electorate shows just how badly Biden and Democratic leadership bungled away a potential generational opportunity…

Russia moves troops to Belarus for joint exercises near Ukraine border

Russia has begun moving troops to Ukraine’s northern neighbour Belarus for joint military exercises, in a move likely to increase fears in the west that Moscow is preparing for an invasion.

The joint military exercises, named United Resolve, are to take place as Russia also musters forces along Ukraine’s eastern border, threatening a potential invasion that could unleash the largest conflict in Europe for decades.

Social media videos from Belarus appeared to show artillery and other military vehicles arriving on flatbed carriages owned by the Russian state railway company, and Alexander Volfovich, the head of Belarus’s security council, said in a briefing that troops were already arriving before exercises scheduled for February.

Barbara Kay: What we don’t know about unmarked graves at residential schools

Over the past month, three noteworthy events have presented as provocative grist to the groaning mill of Indigenous-“settler” relations.

First, acclaimed Cree playwright/novelist Tomson Highway’s memoir , Permanent Astonishment, was published by Penguin-Random House. Highway’s experiences at a residential school did not embitter him. On the contrary, he credited that nine-year stint for the foundational skills that led to creative self-realization. But saying so publicly, once permissible, has become a form of blasphemy in the chattering classes.

Cracking the case of the ‘woke’ prosecutor

One of the most puzzling conundrums about “progressive” prosecutors — who favor de-prosecution and de-carceration — is to ascertain their motivations.

What are these elected chief prosecutors thinking when they unilaterally decide not to enforce the law? And why, even as murders increase in the big cities they police, do they continue to support these policies without shame?

Let’s consider the options…

The remarkable lengths taken to whitewash Bill Clinton’s cosy links to pervert Jeffrey Epstein when Hillary ran for President

The email came out of the blue one day in 2016. Almost a decade had passed since Miles and Cathy Alexander had left their jobs as residential managers of Little St James, Jeffrey Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean.

Since then, Epstein had been jailed — briefly — for paedophile offences and the couple had retired to their native South Africa.

But now Darren Indyke, the disgraced tycoon’s attorney, was back in touch. The lawyer wanted the Alexanders to do something that would be of particular benefit to Hillary Clinton and her campaign to become the first female President of the United States, later that year.

Revenge is Sweet! ChiComs Say Canada Infected Beijing With Omicron Tainted Mail!

Did Omicron arrive in China’s capital Beijing by mail from Canada?

The Omicron variant of the coronavirus could have entered the Chinese capital Beijing via contaminated mail from Canada, the city’s centre for disease control said on Monday.

Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, said the city’s first Covid-19 patient to be diagnosed with the variant had received a letter mailed from Canada on January 7.

“We do not rule out the possibility that the person was infected through contacting an object from overseas,” she said.
