Democrat Graham Platner has suspended his campaign for US Senate in Maine, following a series of scandals that included a woman accusing him of sexual assault.
In the days since the accusation was made, Democrats have called on him to drop out of the race considered pivotal to their chances of gaining control of the US Senate.
In a video posted online, Platner said his decision was not an admission of guilt but due to Democrats’ threats to cut off campaign support. He called the assault allegation “false”.

As a university student in Vancouver a decade ago, I’d regularly hit up the Warehouse, an ultra-budget pub because they offered an enticing $5 burger or plate of pasta. I went back recently, and when I saw that the same items today run around $12, I felt something between shock and bereavement.
The average wages of Canadians certainly didn’t double. Canadians are earning about $1,300 a week, up roughly a third since 2016. That bump has been swallowed up, as everything has become more expensive — groceries alone have risen just as much. The asking rent on a Vancouver one-bedroom has, just like the burger, more than doubled. I do love to reminisce about the $800/month rent I landed for a two-bedroom back in 2013, split with a roommate. And then, I look at the $3,000 I pay today, and I can only grimace.

NATO countries are bolstering their militaries after U.S. President Donald Trump “won the argument” on defence spending, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Wednesday.
Trump has long said allies don’t spend enough on defence and that the U.S. has carried more than its fair share of NATO’s defence spending burden.
Carney told reporters in Turkey on the last day of the summit that Trump is looking to shift that burden – something former U.S. president Barack Obama had sought as well.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is appointing Conservative MP Richard Martel to the Senate because Martel has held a Quebec seat (Chicoutimi-Le Fjord) that was Liberal until Martel won it in a byelection in 2018. Carney wants it back for his party.

Aweek before the 250th anniversary of America declaring independence, more than 1,000 people assembled at the nation’s capital to make a declaration of their own: their vision to dismantle America’s founding institutions. “All of US Next250 National Mobilization” protested the Trump administration, debuted new “founding documents,” and re-envisioned America as seen by Marxist revolutionaries.
“It’s not just a day, it’s a movement, and it’s been three years in the making,” Saru Jayarman, a co-organizer of Next250, told The Federalist. “This is the time to set the tone for what the next 250 years will be.”

Seeking to counter what it called a decade-long “revisionist movement” to “rewrite our Nation’s history,” the Trump administration issued Executive Order 14253 on March 27, 2025, directing federal officials to review Smithsonian exhibits and programs for ideological content. Pursuant to that order, the White House Domestic Policy Council released a report, “Saving America’s Story,” on America’s 250th anniversary of Independence Day arguing that the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History has strayed from its core public mission: telling America’s story with honesty, seriousness, and civic pride.
Europe is changing rapidly, and we have all simply have to adapt. It has become far more diverse and multicultural than it once was, and that is, as we have been reminded constantly for decades now, something to celebrate. Sure, Europe is now less safe, more squalid, and far less inviting than it was just a few years ago, but that’s just racism, xenophobia, and “Islamophobia” talking. If we were simply less blinkered and mired in our own prejudices, we would be able to see the glories of the new Europe for what they are. One byproduct of that would be that we would see this story from Sweden as something to celebrate, rather than something to deplore.
