Will the 2026 World Cup be a disaster for fans?

Immigration difficulties, mass deportation raids and climate issues have plagued the United States, the biggest of the three World Cup host countries, for most of 2025. With the first phase of ticket sales leaving fans astounded by the record-high prices, it raises the question: how much will fans really be able to enjoy the 2026 World Cup?

A disaster for fans? Maybe. But the “organizers” will suffer no financial loss, the tax payer will pick up the tab.

White beaver proves racism is part of Canada’s DNA

Rare white beaver wows Ottawa-area wildlife watchers

On a river near Perth, Ont., a boatload of wildlife photographers silently stalked their quarry on a recent fall evening.

With an electric trolling motor providing propulsion, the water remained millpond-flat as they glided upstream. But then a splash rang out like a shot as their target’s tail slapped the water and the creature dove beneath the surface.

The mythical white beaver had smelled them.

What we know about the ‘first phase’ of the Gaza peace deal

US President Donald Trump says Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of his Gaza peace plan, in a major step towards a permanent end to their war.

It comes two years and two days after the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others taken hostage.

This triggered a massive Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which has killed more than 67,100 people, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.

With Mideast Deal, Trump Is on the Brink of a Major Diplomatic Accomplishment

President Trump is at the brink of the biggest diplomatic accomplishment of his second term — a cessation of the brutal war between Israel and Hamas — and on Wednesday evening he made clear he was eager to fly to the Middle East to preside over a cease-fire and welcome hostages who have spent two long years in underground captivity.

For Mr. Trump, success in this venture is the ultimate test of his self-described goal as a deal maker and a peacemaker — and a pathway to the Nobel Peace Prize he has so openly coveted. By chance, the winner for 2025 is scheduled to be announced just hours before he may be departing to take his victory lap in Egypt and Israel.

Arabic ‘O Canada’ on October 7 is institutional capture

A Toronto high school’s decision to play an Arabic version of “O Canada” on Oct. 7 — the two-year anniversary of Hamas’s massacre of 1,200 and kidnapping of 251 in southern Israel — was not an act of inclusion. It was a calculated political statement.

The only official versions of “O Canada,” as defined by the federal National Anthem Act, are in English and French. Other languages may be shared culturally, but never as a replacement. The decision to broadcast an Arabic version on Oct. 7 by Earl Haig Secondary School was an unmistakable act of defiance.

Some of us Islamophobes have been pointing out this ‘institutional capture’ for years. Decades even.

Our school boards and  provincial government first decided that anti-White hatred was an acceptable part of school curriculum.

Anti-White hatred opened the door to the antisemitism we see today.

Is the Royal Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier already out of date?

From the surface of its flight deck, in the waters between Malaysia and Indonesia, HMS Prince of Wales is a vision of deadly splendour, the most advanced warship in the history of the Royal Navy.

Its radars can detect an object as small as a tennis ball 15 miles away. Its laser-guided Phalanx gun stands poised to blast out of the water any enemy who gets too close. Its fifth-generation F-35 stealth fighter jets fly at supersonic speeds and land vertically like helicopters on its 280m-long deck.

Lutnick dismisses any prospect of auto deal between U.S. and Canada: sources

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is dismissing any prospect of a comprehensive auto deal with Canada, according to three sources in the room when he made the comments.

Lutnick made the comments during a discussion under Chatham House Rules at the Eurasia Group’s Canada-U.S. Summit in Toronto on Wednesday, one day after the second in-person meeting in Washington between U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney.

According to the sources, Lutnick said the U.S. could continue buying parts from Canada, “but that’s about it.”

This will gut jobs in Ontario, how many may remain for parts mfg and export I do not know.

Trump told the US autoworkers he would bring back production during his election campaign.

I think that’s why he threw the race to Carney. Better optics to beat up on a Liberal than a Conservative.

Islamist terror suspects ‘plotted mass shooting of Jews’

Two alleged Islamic State-inspired terrorists plotted to massacre Jews in the North West, a court has heard.

Walid Saadaoui, 38, and Amar Hussein, 52, planned to “kill as many members of the Jewish community as they could” with assault rifles similar to those used in the 2015 Paris terror attacks, Preston Crown Court was told.

Jurors were told the pair hoped to become “martyrs” after causing “untold harm” by planning “mass fatalities”.

Modular housing was a hit in Sweden but a bust in the U.S. How will Canada do?

Like Sweden, Japan and the U.S. before it, Canada will start experimenting with scaled-up factory-built housing next year — and it has plenty of lessons to learn from countries where the industry has already matured.

Build Canada Homes, the federal government’s newly launched homebuilding agency, aims to fund the construction of 4,000 modular homes on federal land across the country starting next year. The public-private project — currently limited to six cities — could eventually scale to build 45,000 homes, according to Ottawa’s announcement.

Rempel Garner says push needed to end automatic citizenship for children of non-residents

Calgary Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner says it’s time for Canada to end automatic citizenship for children born to temporary or undocumented residents, arguing the country’s current policy is being exploited and erodes the meaning of citizenship.

In a detailed statement, Rempel Garner said a decade of Liberal “post-national” immigration policies has flooded Canada’s system, leading to housing, healthcare, and job shortages while undermining shared Canadian values.
