OTTAWA – Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly says Canada has been considering a “game plan” for how it would respond if the United States takes a far-right, authoritarian shift after next year’s presidential elections.
“We are certainly working on scenarios,” Joly said in French during an interview with a Montreal radio station Wednesday.
Joly added that Ottawa’s close political and economic ties to the U.S. means that “we must certainly prepare several scenarios.”

New plant-based pork ribs to feature edible vegan bones
Plant-based pork ribs with a twist – edible vegan bones – will soon make their debut on diners’ plates, a vegan food company has announced.
The idea of the edible bones, produced by Juicy Marbles, began with the manufacturer wanting the bones to be compostable, but then realising they could also be eaten. The first products will be available from the end of August in the UK, EU and US.
An IT glitch allowed Bank of Ireland customers to overdraw cash from ATMs, but the issue has since been fixed, bank officials said on Wednesday.
According to Irish media, the bank’s clients were able to take out up to €1,000 ($1,009) over their account balance on Tuesday. Social media users spread news of the glitch, leading to long lines at ATMs across the country.

Sask. engineer slapped with an 18-month suspension after designing bridge that collapsed hours after opening
The association that regulates professional engineers in Saskatchewan has suspended Scott Gullacher for 18 months because he designed a bridge that collapsed just hours after it opened to the public.
Gullacher was responsible for the Dyck Memorial Bridge in the RM of Clayton, about 300 kilometres east of Saskatoon. It opened and collapsed on Sept. 14, 2018.
No one was injured when it fell into the river.

A trio of brazen thieves was caught on video pilfering bags of merchandise from an East Los Angeles Nike store over the weekend — just one day after over $300,000 in stock was swiped from a nearby Nordstrom.
One man and two women entered the Nike Community Store on Whittier Boulevard just after 5:30 p.m. Sunday and began boldly grabbing whatever they could carry, in full view of staff and other shoppers, the video circulated on the Citizen app shows, KTLA reported.
