The patron of a defunct LGBT charity, which encouraged children to question the gender binary, has been charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse.
Stephen Ireland, 40, is facing a total of 37 charges, including rape of a child under 13, six counts of making indecent photographs of children and two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
For 15 of the alleged offences, the founder of Pride in Surrey was jointly charged alongside David Sutton, 26.
A 33-year-old woman has been charged with deliberately contaminating a public pool in Milton with feces.
According to a press release, on Tuesday, Aug. 13, the Town of Milton contacted Halton police about ongoing service disruptions at municipal pools in the Milton Sports Centre and the Milton Leisure Centre.
Const. Jeff Dillon, Halton Regional Police Service media officer, said police were told that on five occasions between Aug. 1 and Aug. 12, someone contaminated the pools with feces and chocolate bars during public swims.

Ranchers are furious after an armed federal agent stormed the land of a South Dakota couple, who are now facing 10 years in prison over a fence if convicted as charged.
Charles and Heather Maude, both 39, of Caputa, were separately served grand jury indictments of alleged theft of government property on June 24 by Forest Service Special Agent Travis Lunders, who showed up at their door unannounced, armed, and full tactical gear, according to Cowboy State Daily.
‘It’s is stressful, financially and mentally,’ Charles told the outlet. ‘It’s something nobody should have to go through.’
Following criticism, Ottawa removes funding caps for residential school searches
OTTAWA – The federal government is backtracking on a move to limit funding for searches of former residential school grounds.
Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Gary Anandasangaree said in a statement Friday the government has heard concerns from Indigenous leaders and communities “loud and clear.”
Communities could previously receive up to $3 million per year through the Residential Schools Missing Children Community Support Fund, but the government had moved to cap funding at $500,000.
Academics who study social media say a suspected bot campaign associated with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s recent speaking event in northern Ontario likely was the work of an amateur.
A rapid analysis conducted by Toronto Metropolitan University’s Social Media Lab (SML) concluded the bot campaign does not have the fingerprints of a sophisticated actor, but didn’t say who might have been behind it.

Trudeau mulls name-and-shame policy to curb foreign worker abuse
(Bloomberg) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government is mulling a change to help crack down on abuses of temporary foreign workers — publicly naming individual business managers or owners who violate Canada’s labor rules.
The measure would be part of a broader set of reforms to clean up the country’s migrant labor system, according to people familiar with the matter, speaking on condition they not be identified.
The government is facing heavy criticism for a policy that has made it much easier for companies to bring in temporary foreign workers, or TFWs, and for lax enforcement of rules intended to protect them. Trudeau’s administration, responding to concerns about labor shortages, increased the limits on low-wage TFWs in 2022, allowing firms to hire up to 20% of their staff through that program — with a 30% limit in certain sectors, such as construction.
So Trudeau will let them continue to flood the nation with wage depressing foreigners but promises a stern finger wagging.

German authorities told residents of a town in the west of the country to avoid using or consuming water from the taps on Thursday afternoon amid fears that the water supply had been tampered with.
The warning came after a hole was found in the fence around the supply, which also feeds a nearby military base. The warning was partially lifted on Monday, but residents were told to boil tap water before drinking it.
The incident in the town of Mechernich, in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, was discovered after another suspected case of sabotage was reported close to a military base at Cologne airport, not far from the town of Mechernich.
Nova Scotia has the highest rate of shoplifting in Canada, according to a National Post analysis of Statistics Canada crime data. British Columbia has the second-highest rate.
In late July, StatCan released its Canadian crime data for 2023. In recent years, as the cost of living has soared, retailers and business organizations have complained about increasingly brazen and damaging bouts of shoplifting.
