have a bit more to say about former MSNBC host Joy Reid and her former colleague Alex Wagner, who recently engaged in an online conversation comparing Independence Day and Juneteenth.

Reid stated that “nobody black I know is really excited about the 4th of July” and claimed that her black friends basically treat the Fourth as a day off to barbecue. (That seems racist. Is Reid saying that all blacks like ribs and chicken?)

Indigenous community members have encouraged federal officials to reflect on how the Order of Canada can overcome its “deep colonial symbolism and associations,” says an internal government presentation on efforts to modernize the Canadian honours system.

The April presentation, prepared for the Order of Canada Advisory Council, says recent feedback indicates that accepting the honour “could bring feelings of discomfort or shame” to some Indigenous people due to its colonial associations.

Half of units at newly refurbished Darlington station offline in prolonged outages

Two of four reactors at Ontario’s Darlington Nuclear Generating Station have been out of service for prolonged outages, after the completion of a 10-year refurbishment that provincial officials have repeatedly characterized as an unqualified success.

The station’s reactors were refurbished between October, 2016, and early March, when the final unit returned to service. Ever since, station owner Ontario Power Generation and the provincial government have told the public that the project was completed four months ahead of schedule, and $150-million under its $12.8-billion budget.

The past few years of chaos at Oakville’s Canada Day event, where hundreds of teens gathered and set off fireworks at each other and bystanders, almost led to this year’s waterfront display being cancelled entirely.

“We’ve had people get hit with fireworks. I’ve been hit with fireworks,” said Oakville councillor Sean O’Meara. “Businesses have had fireworks shot into them. It’s, kind of, anarchy.”

We have bigger problems than fireworks.

The former prime minister shared his thoughts on immigration during a fireside-style chat with Finnish journalist Jaako Loikanna at the Sumoi Areena, an annual public debate and societal discussion forum in Pori, Finland, last Thursday.
