Police have provided few details but say the resident is facing charges for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, and the intruder, who is also facing charges, was airlifted to hospital afterward.

Toronto teens charged with murder in Etobicoke shooting
An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old from Toronto have been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal springtime shooting of 23-year-old Awais Ismail Awais in north Etobicoke.
Police identified Malikye Monoroth and Saaid Mohamed as suspects. On Tuesday, Monoroth, 18, was arrested and charged. Police arrested and charged Mohamed, 19, on Wednesday.

‘Something is broken’: Ford slams assault charges against homeowner after break-in
Premier Doug Ford is speaking out after a Lindsay, Ont., homeowner was charged with assault following a violent encounter with an alleged intruder over the weekend.
“This criminal that’s wanted by the police breaks into this guy’s house, this guy gives him a beating, and this guy gets charged. Something is broken,” Ford said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Newmarket man agrees to terrorism peace bond over alleged youth plot to join ISIS
A Newmarket man accused of plotting to leave Canada to join ISIS while still a youth has been ordered to sign a terrorism peace bond requiring him to remain in the country and avoid extremist material on social media, where prosecutors allege he became immersed in hateful content.
The now 19-year-old was arrested last December by the RCMP in connection with a terrorism investigation and was released from custody that same day on strict conditions pending the outcome of a peace bond application. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was a teen at the onset of the investigation.
