Reports that U.S. troops based in Alaska are being readied for deployment to the streets of Minneapolis amid a turbulent immigration crackdown there could put a Canadian officer in a sticky situation. Brig. Gen. Robert McBride is those soldiers’ deputy commanding officer.

 

McBride was seconded to the U.S. 11th Airborne Division in 2023, replacing another Canadian, Brig. Gen. Louis Lapointe, as deputy commanding general of operations.

Trump steps up demand to annex Greenland but rules out using force

Donald Trump has stepped up his demand to annex Greenland in an extraordinary speech in Davos, but said the US would not use force to seize what he called the “big, beautiful piece of ice”.

Addressing thousands of business and political leaders at the World Economic Form in the Swiss ski resort, the US president said he was “seeking immediate negotiations to once again discuss the acquisition of Greenland by the United States”.

“I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force. All the US is asking for is a place called Greenland,” he said. “You can say yes, and we will be very appreciative. Or you can say no and we will remember.”

Nearly a fifth of Americans now ‘prefer’ that Canada become a U.S. state or territory, poll suggests

17 per cent of Americans support Canada becoming either a territory or the 51st State of the U.S. — but two-thirds stand by its sovereignty, a new poll suggests.

The findings come amid U.S. President Donald Trump‘s ambitions to seize Greenland, a self-governing territory of fellow NATO member Denmark, after capturing former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and toppling his government earlier this month.

But according to the survey by public opinion pollster Research Co., most respondents don’t want the U.S. to take over Greenland. Nor do they want Panama, Cuba or Mexico under American control.

For a country whose security and prosperity depend on solidarity with the United States, with whom it has had a historically challenging relationship, Carney’s comments carry significant risk, if not real damage.

Minn. officials, including Walz and Frey, accused of hindering ICE, served with grand jury subpoenas by FBI

The FBI has served Minnesota officials including Gov. Tim Walz, attorney general Keith Ellison and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey with grand jury subpoenas for allegedly conspiring to hinder ICE operations in the state, according to FOX reports.

The subpoenas are requesting “records and communications” from the officials, according to FOX News, as anti-ICE protests roil the Twin Cities nearly two weeks after Renee Good was shot by an agent after she clipped him with her SUV.

They had, Trump said, ‘journeyed to Greenland for purposes unknown’ and he accused them of playing a ‘very dangerous game’.

Canada must stand with Europe in its defence of Greenland if we know what’s good for us

NATO is facing one of its gravest internal crises since its founding, and Canada is facing its own moment of truth.

President Donald Trump’s demand that Denmark hand over Greenland to the United States goes far beyond his late-night posts on Truth Social. It is a deadly serious attempt by the alliance’s dominant power to carve up the territory of a fellow NATO member.

This is not the first time NATO has been shaken by internal division. But unlike past crises, this one strikes at the very rule that has underpinned Western security for 80 years: that borders are not revised by coercion.

I’m just not buying the elite narrative that I should defend their right to abuse us as serfs just because they’ve wrapped themselves in the flag.

I won’t be signing up to fight for open borders, depressed wages, unaffordable everything and precarious access to medical care even if they throw in a shitty ChiCom EV.
