By 10am it was eerily quiet. The previous day saw market traders, hundreds of shoppers and families enjoying lunch alfresco in the late summer sun. But by Thursday morning, Braintree in Essex was a ghost town.

And then, shortly before 11am, the first minibus arrived like clockwork from Wethersfield asylum accommodation site and a group of young men disembarked, smartphones in hand, one wearing a Covid-style mask to hide his face.

‘They hang around the bus station and they whistle at the schoolgirls coming off the buses,’ complained 66-year-old local Mike Readon. ‘It’s horrendous. Lots of women just avoid the town entirely on a Thursday because it’s a totally different environment.

I went back to my hometown recently, a small suburb in north-west London. I strolled the streets, stopped by the crumbling library where we did our homework, visited the convent where I was educated (it’s a block of flats now – isn’t everything?). And I’m going to tell you something I’ve been keeping to myself since that day: while I was there I didn’t hear a word of English.

It really hit me later in the evening, on the Tube home, when I heard a young English fella yapping on his phone. ‘This teenage blather is the first thing I’ve understood today’, I thought to myself. And you know what? I was grateful for it. I’m at that age where I find mobile chatter on trains irksome. Not this time. The boy’s voice hit me like thunder, a sudden, blinding bolt of home.

I’m sorry, but I have finally reached a point where I am so angry I can barely compose myself to write. Scarcely a day passes without learning of some unbearable new abomination. Please consider this column a prolonged and anguished scream in the style of Edvard Munch.

There is no longer any room for doubt that violent and sexual attacks on British women, girls and children by illegal migrants and other men from misogynist cultures are shrugged off as collateral damage by a Government that refuses, for reasons of political expediency and ideological preference, to protect them.

As I saw for myself this week on a visit to the camp in Wethersfield, deep in the Essex countryside, residents want for practically nothing. There’s a fully equipped gymnasium, a fitness room, a full-sized football pitch and a substantial indoor sports hall with all the equipment for five-a-side soccer, basketball and cricket – all free.

For those who want to kick back and take it easy, there are recreation rooms with televisions and pool tables, and a snack bar.

The only legitimate purpose of government is to secure and protect the natural rights of its own people, as our founders constantly pointed out. And while the United Kingdom predates the American Revolution, the fundamental obligation of government to protect its citizens is not exclusive to us.

One of the most basic protections people, but particularly women, should expect of their government is that their government will not import foreigners who want to harm them, or to be more specific, rape them.

A sexual predator who was deported after raping an 18-year-old has been caught living in Essex after sneaking back onto British soil.

Blerim Hajdarmataj, who was working as a cleaner, launched a twisted attack on the girl after a chance meeting at a Chelmsford bar in September 2014.

The 35-year-old invited the young woman back to his home, and although she initially refused, she woke the following day in his bed.

In the build-up to the 2024 Tory leadership election, Kemi Badenoch declared that ‘not all cultures are equal’. Her argument – that we can be a thriving multi-ethnic nation while expecting everyone to adhere to British cultural values – was met with fury. For some of Badenoch’s critics, the mere suggestion that certain foreign value systems are inferior to those of a western liberal democracy was beyond the pale. All the usual buzzwords were deployed: racist, fascist, far-right. Labour MP Dawn Butler shared a social media post deriding the Tory leader as ‘white supremacy in blackface’.

I don’t know how familiar readers are with the term ‘accelerationism’. It is generally used to describe a tendency on the left, though is increasingly heard on the right too.

The basic idea of accelerationism is that there are certain flaws in the societal structure which if pushed could bring things to their inevitable conclusion more quickly.

It is why there are so many people on the left of politics who say that sustainable government spending should be discouraged. It is not just because they are economically illiterate. What they really hope is that a speeded-up financial disaster will expose the ‘underlying contradictions of capitalism’, and we’ll all realise that Karl Marx was right and promptly vote for Zack Polanski or similar at the next election.

A 22-year-old Somali small boat migrant stabbed an asylum hotel welfare officer with a large kitchen knife ‘multiple times’, a court has heard.

Abdifatah Yusuf Adani knifed Aaron Gomes at the Stanwell Hotel in west London at around 6.30pm on Saturday, August 15.

Armed officers from Surrey Police rushed to the hotel and found Mr Gomes, a man in his 30s, suffering from life-threatening injuries.
