LONDON — Britain will ban the import of goods made in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to a person familiar with the policy deliberations, and possibly impose sanctions on companies involved in an accelerating building boom in the communities, which are considered illegal by much of the international community.
The moves, expected to be announced Tuesday by Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, mark the starkest break yet from the U.K.’s traditional role as a staunch supporter of Israel and show how Israel’s actions in the West Bank and its war in Gaza are straining long-standing alliances.
