Only one in 20 muggings in London were solved last year, according to a report that reveals the extent of the crime epidemic plaguing the capital.
The study by the Policy Exchange think tank also showed that only one in 170 snatch thefts, such as watches or phones being stolen on the street, were solved by the Metropolitan Police.

An elite team of police officers is to monitor social media for anti-migrant sentiment amid fears of summer riots.
Detectives will be drawn from forces across the country to take part in a new investigations unit that will flag up early signs of potential civil unrest.
The division, assembled by the Home Office, will aim to “maximise social media intelligence” gathering after police forces were criticised over their response to last year’s riots.

When Nigel Farage warned this week that “nobody in London understands how close we are to civil disobedience”, the response from Left-liberals, confused and frightened by a predictable course of events nevertheless incomprehensible to their worldview, was to cast him as a sort of English Ian Paisley, threatening violence at a safe remove for political gain.
It is becoming harder by the day to pretend this is all normal. Epping, a leafy Essex town not known for rabble-rousing, has suddenly become a bellwether. It is not extremists making the noise, but mothers: ordinary, decent, quietly exhausted. One protestor’s placard said it best: “I’m not far-Right. I’m worried about my kids.”

For over a week, protests have rumbled outside a taxpayer-funded refugee hotel in Epping, Essex. Protesters, mostly local, have been angered by allegations an Ethiopian migrant housed at the Bell Hotel sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl. The unrest was further fuelled by the hotel’s proximity to a local school, and the fact that the suspect had arrived on a small boat just eight days prior to being charged.

The Essex Police Commissioner has demanded that migrants are removed from Epping following days of protests.
In a letter to Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, Roger Hirst said The Bell Hotel, which has been the focal point of unrest, was “unsuitable” for housing migrants and that the presence of asylum seekers was “clearly creating community tension”.
On Thursday night, police were preparing for more disorder outside the hotel and planning to keep protesters separate in order to prevent clashes.

But it is now the most visible site of discontent with Britain’s asylum system, which has deposited thousands of unvetted migrants into smalltown Britain.
The protests began last Sunday, after Hadush Kebatu, an asylum seeker from Ethiopia, was charged with trying to kiss a schoolgirl on the town’s high street. He had been in Britain for just eight days. Housed inside the Bell Hotel until his arrest, Kebatu had been living alongside an unknown number of other asylum seekers.

An investigation by this newspaper has revealed that at least 312 asylum seekers have been charged with an astonishing 708 alleged criminal offences in just three years – including rape, sexual assault, attacking emergency workers and theft.
The Home office said, ‘Removal of foreign national offenders is up by 14% since the last election, and we are also taking action through our Border Security Bill to cancel the asylum claims of anyone convicted of a sex offence.’
