Donald Trump has backtracked on claims British troops stayed away from the front line in Afghanistan after a backlash.

In a statement posted on Truth Social the US President said that British soldiers were “among the greatest of all warriors” and were “GREAT and very BRAVE”.

No apology for Canada?

On day one, he put the world on notice.

“Nothing will stand in our way,” President Donald Trump declared, to thunderous applause, as he ended his inauguration speech in a cold Washington winter on this day last year, at the start of his second term.

Did the world fail to take enough notice?

Tucked into his speech was a mention of the 19th Century doctrine of “manifest destiny” – the idea that the US was divinely ordained to expand its territory across the continent, spreading American ideals.

He has purged government agencies and sent the Department of Justice against perceived enemies. He has launched an immigration crackdown and deployed troops into cities. President Trump will confront fellow Nato leaders who accuse him of unravelling the global order in Davos on Wednesday, insisting that “we will work something out” after his threats to seize Greenland shook Europe’s alliance with the United States.

Accused by President Macron of France of creating “a world without rules”, Trump continued his menacing approach when asked how far he was prepared to go to acquire the Danish territory, saying: “You’ll find out.”

Earlier he took another swipe at ­Nato, saying: “Whether you like it or not, it’s only as good as we [the US] are.” But when asked whether he was prepared to sacrifice Nato for Greenland, he indicated that he was coming to Switzerland to talk about a deal.

President Trump’s Davos address is scheduled for 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM EST.

Donald Trump’s White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, was recently recorded warning CBS News to broadcast a new interview with the president in full and without edits – or “we’ll sue your ass off”.

Trump “said, ‘Make sure you guys don’t cut the tape, make sure the interview is out in full,’” Leavitt told CBS anchor Tony Dokoupil after he had interviewed the president, according to an audio exchange first reported on by the New York Times. The 13-minute exclusive segment aired on Tuesday, months after CBS’ parent company Paramount agreed to pay Trump $16m over its editing of an unrelated interview ahead of the 2024 election that vaulted him to a second presidency.

WASHINGTON — President Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday to pull the US out of a UN coalition that State Department officials claim has been pushing unconstitutional and racist policies — including a push for global reparations.

The UN Permanent Forum on People of African Descent promoted racial grievances and “victim based social policies” within the world’s governing body that ran afoul of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment and Equal Protection clause, according to Trump administration officials.

US President Donald Trump has said he is withdrawing National Guard troops from several US cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles, after a Supreme Court ruling last week undermined his authority to use troops for policing.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Trump administration withdrew its legal attempts to keep control of troops deployed in LA. Last week, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump could not use troops in Chicago for domestic law enforcement.
