Trump adds $100,000 fee for skilled worker visa applicants

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that will add a $100,000 (£74,000) annual fee for applicants to the H-1B visa programme for skilled foreign workers.

Trump’s order mentions “abuse” of the programme and will restrict entry unless payment is made.

Critics have long argued that H-1Bs undercut the American workforce, while supporters – including billionaire Elon Musk – argue it allows the US to attract top talent from around the world.

40 Percent of Canadian Youth Say Jobs a Major Concern: Poll

Nearly 40 percent of Canadian youth say unemployment is their top concern, according to a new poll.

The survey was conducted by the Angus Reid Institute. It found that nearly two in five of those between 18 years and 24 years (37 percent) said jobs and unemployment was the top issue facing the country.

That is up 9 percentage points from June (28 percent) and nearly double from Decemeber 2024 (18 percent).

Premier Danielle Smith is directing the provincial jobs minister to use all legal means possible to give Alberta more control over immigration.

In a new mandate letter given to Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Minister Joseph Schow, Smith says Alberta needs more control over immigration to ensure the province sees sustainable levels of newcomers.

“Our provincial immigration levels and policies should always ensure that Canadian citizens have first access to job opportunities, and that young Canadians are not losing out on employment opportunities to temporary foreign workers,” the letter says.

Canada’s immigration policy is still moving in the “wrong” direction and needs a course correction to achieve long-term prosperity instead of short-term labour market solutions, says a new report by C.D. Howe Institute.

“Canada must move from chasing numbers and pursuing short-term or non-economic objectives to focusing on skills,” C.D. Howe Institute senior policy analyst Parisa Mahboubi said in a Sept. 16 release on the report.
Labour market skills and the earnings potential of permanent and temporary immigrants should be prioritized over achieving numeric targets in immigration policy, the Sept. 16 C.D. Howe report said. The report is based on the recommendations made by members of C.D. Howe’s Immigration Targets Council, including academics and policy experts.

The “anti-colonial” Left wants Western societies to atone for their “original sins”. From its historical role in slavery, imperialism and the extirpation of native peoples to class oppression, progressives argue that the West should pay penance today by allowing unrestricted mass immigration from the most wretched parts of the earth.

Yet mass migration has aroused increasingly fierce opposition throughout the West. This is true not only in the United States, but in other countries with a long history of successful migration, including the UK, the Netherlands and France. Moves to reduce migration are already in place in Italy, and seem set to be imposed soon in Germany, whose welfare state is creaking under the burden. Canada, once seen as one of the countries most positive about mass migration, has also announced plans for major reductions.

The propagandists of mass immigration, that is the liars attempting to to steal your country and replace you, are an odd alliance of Corporate, Political and Liberal-left demons.

They have weaponized not just language and institutions but entire groups to serve their hateful purpose.

Ottawa’s Strong Borders Act has been sold as a bill to strengthen the border and keep Canadians safe, but experts say a hidden — and crucial — objective is to slash ballooning immigration backlogs and processing times.

In tabling Bill C-2 in June, Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree scratched the surface of why immigration officials needed the powers to “cancel, suspend or vary” immigration documents and processing of new applications “en masse for reasons determined to be in the public interest.”

At the Liberal caucus retreat in Edmonton this week, Prime Minister Mark Carney put the immigration system on notice, saying recent levels have not been “sustainable” and a more “focused” approach is required. “It’s clear that we must improve our overall immigration policies,” he said.

Things are pretty bad when even the CBC is made to comment.

Did you know that Canada has admitted more than 15 million temporary workers since 2015? Neither did I, until I read it on Twitter (X).

The post includes an “official government of Canada chart.” Sure enough, it shows the numbers admitted under three temporary work programs – not only the Temporary Foreign Worker program, but also the International Mobility Program, as well as study permits, which allow the bearers to work up to 24 hours a week – have grown from about 750,000 as of 2015 to 3.1 million in 2024.

So desperate he’ll cite one tweet made in error to justify his sycophancy to those who have abused Canada and Canadians through a horrid mass immigration scam.
