Legal community calls out the backlash against TMU law students behind pro-Palestinian letter

Members of the Canadian legal community are, in an open letter, calling reports of retaliation against lawyers and law students who have expressed support for Palestinian liberation a “new McCarthyism” that will have a “chilling effect on freedom of speech.”

The letter, published online Monday, says lawyers and law students, including those from Toronto Metropolitan University who last month issued a letter of solidarity with Palestinians, are being targeted for their views.

“The post does not align with our values in advancing inclusive excellence or responsibilities as healthcare educators and professionals,” reads an emailed statement from a McMaster University spokesperson. “This matter is being reviewed by the university in alignment with university policies and will be addressed promptly and according to these policies. All parties involved have the right to confidentiality. As such, employment matters are not discussed on a specific case basis.”

An Indiana woman was arrested Friday night after backing her car into a building used by a Black Hebrew Israelite hate group, thinking she was attacking a Jewish school on behalf of “her people back in Palestine.”

Ruba Almaghtheh, 34, was charged with criminal recklessness after being triggered by the Star of David on the building. The Jewish symbol has also been appropriated by the Black Hebrew Israelites.

Syrian Migrant Knifeman Admits He Killed for the Islamic State

A suspected sympathiser of the Islamic State who murdered a 35-year-old man on the streets of the German city of Duisburg earlier this year has admitted he carried out the deadly knife attack on orders from the terrorist group to kill its enemies.

The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court heard from the 27-year-old Syrian this week on Thursday, November 2nd, as he admitted that he carried out the attack which left one dead and four others wounded on behalf of the Islamic State, the newspaper Die Welt reports.

French Jewish woman stabbed in her home in France’s Lyon, police hunt suspect

“Such an act of violence is unthinkable. I offer all my support to the victim and her relatives,” said Lyon Mayor Gregory Doucet on the social media platform X.

A spokesman for the national police gave no further details about the suspect, and said he could not confirm whether police were treating the attack as an anti-Semitic hate crime.

UK: Muslim Police adviser led ‘from the river to the sea’ chant

A hard-Left activist who was filmed leading chants of “from the river to the sea” at a pro-Palestinian rally is an adviser to the police on their response to protests over the Israel-Hamas conflict, The Telegraph can disclose.

Attiq Malik, a solicitor who has also railed against “global censorship by the Zionists”, was present in the police operations room during protests last month.

A video uncovered by The Telegraph shows Mr Malik instigating chants of “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in 2021, a slogan described by Downing Street as “deeply offensive” to many.
