A 39-year-old French Islamist accused of torturing hostages in Syria has claimed in court that he had never been in charge of foreign captives in Isis prisons.

Mehdi Nemmouche made the denial at the start of his trial in Paris where he stands accused of being one of the most sadistic jailers of French, British, American and journalists and human rights workers of other nationalities captured by Islamist State terrorist movement in 2013.

A 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter have died two days after they were injured in a car ramming in the southern German city of Munich, officials said on Saturday.

Authorities earlier said that at least 39 people were injured in the Thursday attack, in which a car rammed into a group carrying out a token strike by the trade union Verdi.

… In a video statement, he called for people commenting on the car ramming incident to express themselves “respectfully” and not to create “political propaganda” out of it.

A stabbing in Austria that killed a 14-year-old boy and wounded five others was an Islamist attack, Austrian officials have said.

The attack took place on Saturday at Villach, a town near the border with Italy and Slovenia, and three of those who were injured remain in intensive care, authorities said.

A 23-year-old Syrian asylum seeker, who was detained at the scene, has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said an Islamic State group flag had been found in his apartment, while state police chief Michaela Kohlweiss said he had sworn allegiance to the group.

“A man randomly attacked passers-by with a knife,” Rainer Dionisio, a police spokesman, told the AFP news agency of the incident in Villach. “One victim, a 14-year-old boy, died.”

Two other men suffered serious injuries, while another two men suffered less serious wounds. The oldest victim of the attack is a 32-year-old, police said.

The Munich attack yesterday, in which a Mini Cooper ploughed into a trade-union march, injuring nearly 40 people, was the fifth time in nine months that Germans flicked open social media or turned on the TV to learn that some disturbed or terroristic scumbag had slashed or rammed his way through their fellow citizens.

A man suspected of attempted mass murder after a car was driven into a crowd in central Munich has been named as Farhad Noori, a competitive bodybuilder with tens of thousands of followers on social media. The authorities say they believe the car-ramming was motivated by Islamism.

Thirty-six people were injured — including a child aged two who suffered critical injuries — when a car was driven into a trade union rally in central Munich. The ramming is suspected to have been deliberate.
