In the end, the New Democratic motion on the Middle East was an opportunity squandered.
Billed as an attempt to provide some clarity to Canada’s approach to the conflict between Israel and Palestine, the motion, passed by the House of Commons this week, after the NDP allowed it to be amended substantially by the Liberals, provided just more confusion.
In particular, it was unclear if anything had changed.
This week’s horrendous political coup, in which the anti-Israel NDP hijacked Canada’s foreign policy has paved the way for a new strain of antisemitism. It is in this climate that the editors of La Presse deemed it acceptable to publish a Nazi-era style cartoon, depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a vampire.
The NDP’s opposition motion, which was passed by the House on Monday, was ostensibly intended to “promote peace in the Middle East,” but by turning our back on Israel, it will only serve to further reduce Canada’s influence in the region and its ability to make any meaningful impact on the lives of Palestinians living in Gaza.
Antisemitic acts have been occurring in Canada in ever-increasing volume since the Oct. 7 massacre of 1,200 Israelis by Hamas terrorists, and the kidnapping of 250 more.
In the weeks that followed Israel’s military response to those crimes, a Jewish school in Montreal was twice fired upon, leaving two bullet holes. A Jewish delicatessen in Toronto was fire-bombed. An Indigo bookstore in Toronto was vandalized, because the chain’s founder is Jewish.
Is it possible that institutionalizing anti-white hate in our schools is a bad thing?
Is it possible that after years of government approved anti-White indoctrination the hatred of other groups such as Zionists is made publicly acceptable just by declaring them “White”?
Nah. That’s White Supremacist talk!
For liberal Jewish critics of Israel, the post-Oct. 7 world has been difficult to navigate. The international campaign to smear the defensive war being waged against terrorists bent on both the destruction of the Jewish state and the mass slaughter of its people has put them in a corner. The wave of Jew-hatred that has spread across the globe, and specifically in the United States in the streets and on college campuses, has targeted them and their children as much as any other sector of Jewish society.
Worst of all, it’s not their traditional political foes on the right or even Donald Trump who is doing this. It is, instead, their longtime allies on the left who are responsible. They have embraced a virulent form of antisemitism but believe that their hatred is justified by woke ideologies like critical race theory and intersectionality that brand Israel and the Jews as “white” oppressors.
Oct 7 was a false flag by White Supremacists.
Seventy-one percent of Palestinians in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank believe Hamas made the right decision in attacking Israel on October 7, according to a new poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research.
The percentage of West Bank residents who support the Hamas attack has decreased slightly since December, when 82 percent of West Bank respondents said they agreed with the decision, though support for the terror attack has increased in Gaza, rising from 57 percent in December to 71 percent in March.
US Senator Chuck Schumer stood at the Senate podium and laid out his vision of the “four obstacles to peace”. These, according to the Senate Majority Leader were, Hamas, “right wing Israelis”, PLO terrorist leader Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Having equated Israeli conservatives with Hamas, Schumer demanded that Israel call a new election and remove its current government from power. And if Israelis did not choose to obey, he warned that the “United States will have no choice but to play a more active role in shaping Israeli policy by using our leverage to change the present course.”
That is an obvious euphemism for anything from the withdrawal of aid to economic sanctions.
More than 20 years ago, the Mackenzie Institute newsletter identified a bizarre and deadly defect in then-Palestinian leader and terrorist Yasser Arafat: “an impulsive urge for trying to take the pot with a pair of fours.” But it’s not just him. It’s on display today from Gaza to Toronto, and we need to stand up to it.
Admittedly Canadian pro-Hamas protesters could be forgiven for thinking they’re strong. They appear to have the police on their side, and much of the political class including that jangling dunce Jagmeet Singh. But I think it’s as bad a misread of the situation on the ground as Arafat’s belief he was about to destroy Israel.
A suspected arson in east London is being investigated as a possible anti-Semitic hate crime, police have said.
The Metropolitan Police said a man in his 60s who was arrested near the scene made threatening and “allegedly anti-Semitic” comments when detained. It is believed the fire was started deliberately, officers said.
The force responded to reports of a fire at an address in Newick Road, Hackney, at about 12.45pm on Wednesday.

Encounters with anti-Israel graffiti and posters, the ongoing disruption of events, and attacks on businesses and institutions have left many Jews in Canada feeling unsafe since Oct. 7.
The apprehension also apparently involves fearing what could happen if an unfriendly driver does a pick-up arranged through a ride-hailing service.
Currently, several North American communities have established their own car services and “Jewber” taxis—including Montreal, Los Angeles, and Chicago, home to “KalaJu” (“Call a Jew”)—but while these may operate on communications platforms like WhatsApp, they haven’t been accessible through a dedicated smartphone application.

London is the most anti-Semitic place in the West, Israel’s diaspora minister said on Wednesday as he warned about the dangers of open immigration allowing extremism to build up.
Amichai Chikli, a controversial hardliner in Israel who is also in charge of anti-Semitism affairs, said a toxic mix of far-Left “wokeism” and Islamic extremism meant the capital city was no longer safe for Jews.
OTTAWA — Immigration Minister Marc Miller said a motion passed by the Commons and criticized by Israel could make it more difficult to get Gazans fleeing the war into Canada.
Canada has had a program to allow Gazans seeking to leave the war to come on a temporary resident visa to Canada if they have family ties. The government introduced the program initially with a 1,000-person cap, but only 14 people have managed to take advantage of it because of restrictions on the Gaza-Egypt and Gaza-Israel borders.

Canada will impose a ban on arms sales to Israel, the country’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced on Tuesday. “It’s a real thing,” Joly told Canadian newspaper The Toronto Star on Tuesday. The decision follows a vote of 204-117 in the Canadian parliament on Monday in favor of ending the sales. While it originally called for a suspension, it was later changed into a full ban.

A political cartoon in a French-language newspaper depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a vampire has sparked accusations of antisemitism.
The cartoon appeared in Wednesday’s edition of La Presse, a prestigious digital-only newspaper. It shows Netanyahu with long claws, pointed ears and wearing an overcoat — imagery reminiscent of Count Orlok, a vampire from the 1922 silent film, Nosferatu.
This is pretty tame by Palestinian standards.
