A Very Unhappy Anniversary – A rally in Toronto for the hostages held by Hamas reflects political shifts for Canada’s Jews.

April 7 was the sixth month anniversary of the October 7 Hamas pogrom and the beginning of the war between Israel and Hamas. For those who have been watching this war closely it was particularly disconcerting. It was on that day that the Netanyahu government announced that it was pulling most of its troops out of southern Gaza, a move that left a number of questions unanswered. Was this a harbinger of Bibi’s coalition succumbing to pressure from the Biden administration to end the war giving Hamas a victory? Was it a response to the recent violent demonstrations by the Israeli left in the guise of a demand to bring the hostages home but, like the prewar demonstrations against judicial reform, was actually meant to bring down the government?

The Destruction of Iran’s Terrorist Hub in Damascus Was Entirely Justified

The bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria was not, as the Iranians claim, simply an attack on a blameless diplomatic mission.

It was a carefully targeted strike on the headquarters of the expansive terrorist network that Tehran has established throughout the Middle East.

The real purpose of the Iranian consulate building, an adjunct of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, was revealed when the Iranians themselves admitted that two senior commanders of the elite Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in the air strike, which has widely been attributed to the Israeli air force.

Joanna Baron: Canadian politicians have suddenly forgotten how to denounce protestors

This past weekend, downtown Ottawa was occupied by a huge crowd of protestors. They danced, shouted angry slogans, banged on drums and created a noisy, inconvenient disruption for local residents and businesses. They even set off smoke bombs, creating hazardous air quality for bystanders and law enforcement.

Sound a bit familiar? Yes, there were some obvious parallels with the Freedom Convoy. But there were also a couple of very big differences. There were many more frightening messages directed at fellow Canadians this time, including “All Zionists are racists” and “All Zionists are degenerates.”

Why did some Arab countries appear to help Israel?

Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel on Saturday night in retaliation for a suspected Israeli attack on its embassy in Damascus at the beginning of April. As the missiles and slow-moving drones were heading toward Israel, Israel’s allies stepped in to help.

The US and UK air forces were involved in shooting down the aerial threats. France may also have been involved in patrolling the area, although it was unclear if the French shot down any projectiles.

But what got a lot of attention was the fact that the Jordanian air force also stepped in to help. Jordan opened up its airspace to Israeli and US planes, and also apparently shot down drones that violated its own airspace.

Rahim Mohamed: Iran’s attack on Israel was inevitable; Trudeau is on the wrong side of history

Iran launched its first full-scale military attack against Israel on Saturday, unleashing a barrage of missiles and drones on dozens of targets across the country. Sirens filled the air well into Sunday morning as Israel’s Iron Dome air defence system picked off the incoming projectiles one by one.

While certainly dramatic, the weekend’s developments shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody who has been watching the region’s politics closely since the Hamas-led Oct. 7 terror attacks in southern Israel.

Biden tells Netanyahu US will not engage in counteroffensive against Iran, calls Saturday a win for Israel: report

President Biden told Israeli Prime Minister that nothing of “value” was hit in Iran’s airborne attack Saturday and asserted American forces will not be participating in any offensive against Iran, according to a report.

The president called Israel’s defense during the attacks a win — telling Netanyahu Israel’s ability to intercept nearly all of the hundreds of missiles and drones showed its military superiority, a US official told CNN.

Biden also made it very clear that the US would not be engaging in any military offensive against the Islamic Republic, the senior official told the channel.

What was in wave of Iranian attacks and how were they thwarted?

For the first time ever, Iran has carried out strikes against Israeli territory.

In the middle of Saturday night, air raid alerts went off in Israel, residents were urged to seek shelter while explosions were heard as air defences were activated.

Interceptions lit up the night sky in several places across the country, while many drones and missiles were shot down by Israel’s allies before they reached Israeli territory.

At least nine countries were involved in the military escalation – with projectiles fired from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen and downed by Israel, the US, the UK and France as well as Jordan.

The Mullahs are not loved but the IRGC is deeply embedded in society.

Trump says White House staff had to convince Biden not to release pre-recorded message on Israel and claims Iran would never have attacked if he was president

Donald Trump has claimed that White House staff had to convince President Biden not to release a pre-recorded message following attacks on Israel by Iran.

The former president added that if he was commander in chief ‘this would never have happened’ in a number of posts made to his Truth Social platform.

Trump said: ‘Biden’s handlers convinced him not to release his taped speech on Israel. He’ll now attempt to do it live.’

Conrad Black: Only after Hamas is destroyed can there be a Palestinian state

Given the Gazan war and the tensions that are always present in the Middle East but are particularly high now, a little original thinking would be particularly useful. As I have had occasion to write in this space before, there can be no resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian issue until the terrorist apparatus of Hamas is completely destroyed. This is not just another episode, the latest skirmish, in the endless series of such incidents until on some far-off day by sheer attrition the parties turn their swords into plowshares. Hamas’s attack on Israel on Oct. 7 was an act of war in violation of an agreed ceasefire and was conducted with the maximum possible barbarity, with the support of the Iranians, to sabotage an impending agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia, and specifically targeted against the most vulnerable people — children, women and the elderly, and those who had shown their commitment to reconciliation with the Arabs by choosing to live so close to the border of Gaza. It combined the sneak attack aspect of the Japanese descent on Pearl Harbor with the repulsive notion of a massacre of the innocents as on 9/11 at the World Trade Center in New York. The loss of life was somewhat smaller in Israel, but proportionately much greater.

IDF Spokesperson: IDF and its partners will defend the State of Israel

IDF Spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, responded late Saturday night to Iran’s attack on Israel, which saw the launch of over 100 UAVs, as well as cruise missiles.

“Iran has launched a direct attack from Iranian soil toward the State of Israel,” Hagari said. “We are closely monitoring Iranian killer drones that are en-route to Israel sent by Iran.”

He stressed, “This is a severe and dangerous escalation.”

The world stands on the brink of all-out war

I’m writing from Israel where the country is tonight braced for a wave of drone attacks from Iran.

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) warned at around 11pm that at least 100 drones had been launched. This was followed by an announcement from Iran’s state-run news agency that ballistic missiles have also been launched.

Israel has been expecting Iranian strikes since conducting an air strike on April 1 that killed Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders in Damascus.

RAF jets ‘shoot down Iranian drones bound for Israel’

British RAF jets were reported to have shot down Iranian drones bound for Israel on Saturday night.

It was reported that British jets took off from Cyprus in order to intercept drones and missiles launched from Iran.

Israel’s Channel 12 said that US and UK fighter jets shot down Iranian drones near the Syria-Iraq border.

When asked about the missile strikes, the Ministry of Defence did not comment.

Berkeley Eats Its Own: A professor who indulges students’ radicalism sees his dinner party spoiled by protests.

… Every year, Chemerinsky—an affable and generous man, who is Jewish—has had new students to his house for dinner. Ahead of this year’s dinners, which were partly make-ups for those postponed during the pandemic in 2021, posters appeared in the aforementioned hallways. The group behind the posters, Berkeley Law Students for Justice in Palestine (LSJP)—“from the river to the sea,” they proclaim on their Instagram profile—denounced the dinners as “no more than PR events for Zionist admin to distract us from the genocide in Gaza.” They demanded that Chemerinsky be treated as a pariah until the university “divest[s] . . . from ALL TIES to the apartheid state of Israel.”

Israel: Standing Alone Against Multifaceted Threats, Thanks to the Biden Administration

In the tumultuous landscape of the Middle East, Israel stands as a beacon of freedoms, human rights and democracy amid a sea of terrorist organizations and authoritarian regimes seeking its destruction.

Israel is currently facing a multi-front war for its survival, with Qatar, Iran and Iran’s proxies, which are encircling Israel, leading the charge. The gravity of this aggression cannot be overstated: not just for the existence of Israel, but also for that of the US, Europe and the West.

Iran launches dozens of drones toward Israel

The IDF announced on Saturday night that Iran has launched dozens of drones directly from its territory against Israel, in a radical change from its usual use of proxies.

The military said that it is ready to shoot them down, though air defense is not hermetic.

The IDF’s shoot-down capabilities include aircraft, Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and the Arrow missile system.

Meanwhile in the restive Mohammedan bastion of Torontostan …
