While Americans know that guns take many innocent lives every year, many don’t know that firearms also save them.
On May 15, an attacker at an apartment complex in Fort Smith, Ark., fatally shot a woman and then fired 93 rounds at other people before a man killed him with a bolt-action rifle. Police said he “likely saved a number of lives in the process.”
Cheerleaders for gun control have oft-cited Australia as the “gold standard.” Now their government is literally shooting them in the back.

The debate over guns in the United States could, until recently, be divided into two extreme camps: the liberal elites (invariably protected by armed guards) who call for ever-more restrictive control of firearms, the basic functionality of which they cannot even begin to explain, and the uber-conservative right, for whom guns are a way of life and are ofttimes life-sustaining.
David Frum is evidently of the first faction, writing in The Atlantic this month about how ‘Responsible Gun Ownership Is a Lie.’ Gun sales – especially among first-time gun buyers – surged between 2019 and 2020, and continue to smash records. This trend has Frum worried.
When Canadians were asked whether they were aware of the Liberal government’s decision to ban over 1,500 rifles and other bills, a whopping 89% said they knew absolutely nothing about the legislation.
There was probably no way Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole could have defended his platform promise to repeal the Liberals’ 2020 ban on certain firearms without risking support from crucial suburban voters. Not with just two weeks left until election day, that is.
The gun prohibition lobbies have discovered that even if they can’t ban guns, choking off ammunition is an effective way to prevent people from using them.

Since then, however, the fortunes of Trudeau’s party have seen a steady decline in the polls, while the Conservative Party is gaining ground. Still, Trudeau’s clearly in trouble, and on Wednesday his party unveiled an election platform chock-full of goodies and giveaways to Canadian voters. For gun owners, however, it’s what the Liberals are promising to take away that’s most concerning.
