Based on its current storage, Germany looks set to make it through another winter without Russian pipeline gas, demonstrating that the fears of the past two years were unmerited. According to a new poll, Germans are no longer worried about potential gas shortages. Policy experts have come to hold the same view, provided the country isn’t subject to a combination of very unlikely factors, such as a complete halting of LNG imports or an enduring cold snap this winter. Alas, it would be premature to claim that the energy question has been finally resolved to Germany’s benefit.

Refugee struggle drives German homelessness up by half

The number of homeless people in Germany has risen by more than 50 per cent in 12 months, according to a report that found the increase was almost entirely due to a doubling in the number of refugees with no fixed place to stay.

Soaring rents, a sharp rise in the broader cost of living and an acute shortage of social housing have compounded the difficulties of finding space for about a million Ukrainians fleeing the invasion of their homeland and the 148,000 non-Ukrainians who applied for asylum in 2022.

Germany: Nearly €50 Billion on Migration in 2023

Germany’s left-liberal traffic light coalition is set to spend 48.2 billion euros of taxpayer cash on costs associated with migration, up from 42 billion last year, the latest figures from the federal ministry of finance have revealed.

The overall costs covering reception, housing, migration registration, educational support for children and youth, and various social expenses equal Germany’s national defense budget, the Berlin-based daily Die Welt reports.

Syrian Migrant Knifeman Admits He Killed for the Islamic State

A suspected sympathiser of the Islamic State who murdered a 35-year-old man on the streets of the German city of Duisburg earlier this year has admitted he carried out the deadly knife attack on orders from the terrorist group to kill its enemies.

The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court heard from the 27-year-old Syrian this week on Thursday, November 2nd, as he admitted that he carried out the attack which left one dead and four others wounded on behalf of the Islamic State, the newspaper Die Welt reports.

Germany is waking up to Islamist antisemitism

A foiled terror plot this week is a sign of a more proactive approach

According to various German reports, domestic intelligence was tipped off earlier this week by a foreign source about a possible terrorist attack on a pro-Israel rally in a major German city. The suspect, “Tarek S”, is a former member of Isis who became infamous in Germany for posing with the victims of beheadings and featuring in propaganda videos for the Islamist group. Once returned to Germany in 2017, he was convicted to five years of juvenile detention.

I’ll believe that when I see it, though they have cracked down on the Hamas supporters.

Hamas celebrations stopped in Berlin amid warning of attacks on Jewish sites

German police broke up pro-Hamas celebrations in Berlin on Saturday night as the country’s antisemitism commissioner warned of attacks on Jewish sites.

Police made multiple arrests in the district of Neukoelln after officers tried to disperse around 40 people who were celebrating on the boulevard of Sonnenallee in the evening.

Officers reported chants of banned slogans such as “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.

Death Threats Force Family of AfD Leader Into Hiding

It has been revealed that the family of German AfD leader Alice Weidel was whisked away from their home to a secure location by police during the weekend of September 23rd after a “security-relevant incident” forced authorities to move to protect their safety.

The threat comes after years of growing state and left-wing harassment against the German populist party, which has recorded its highest-ever polling numbers in recent months on account of worsening economic conditions and rising anti-NATO sentiment.

Germany: Kollege Of Koran Knowledge Graduates First Imams

Twenty-four Muslims from across Germany formally passed their imam training at the country’s new Islamkolleg Deutschland in the northwestern city of Osnabrück on Saturday.

The graduates, who included men and women, received their first certificate of completion after attending a two-year part-time course.

“This is a historic day,” said the chairman of the Islamkolleg’s board of trustees, former German President Christian Wulff during a press conference.

Germany: How safe is it for women at Munich’s Oktoberfest?

Germany’s famous festival, Oktoberfest, attracts plenty of dirndl- and lederhosen-wearing merrymakers to Munich, Bavaria. This year, it runs from September 16 until October 3.

Yet unpleasant incidents can occur with millions of people gathering at the Wiesn, the area in Munich where the festival takes place, and beer flowing. The “Sichere Wiesn,” or “Safer Oktoberfest,” campaign supported by Munich’s city health department assists female visitors in cases of harassment. This year, the campaign has helped 143 women and girls who felt unsafe during the festival’s first week, including seven suspected cases of drink spiking.

These women sought help at Sichere Wiesn’s so-called Safe Space, located on the Oktoberfest grounds behind the Schottenhamel beer tent. It is open daily during the week.

There was nothing unusual about that: there has been, during the last few years, a wave — a decuman — of murderous attacks by Muslim migrants throughout Europe. German media report on fake Jewish organizations

For centuries, Jews have debated what it means to be one. One thing all Jews can probably agree on is that a connection to extremists with antisemitic views and aims to overthrow the German republic is a disqualifier.

But that hasn’t stopped some from trying.

At least 10 associations calling themselves Jewish received official, nonprofit status, only to be revealed to have links to Germany’s “Reichsbürger” (literally, “citizens of the German Empire”) scene.
