A BC Supreme Court judge sentenced a temporary resident from India, who pleaded guilty to sexual assault, to 170 days house arrest, followed by 18 months probation.
Karandeep Singh, 24, admitted June 30 to the incident on June 13, 2024 in Prince George.
A Brampton man known as “King” was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in a Los Angeles prison after pleading guilty this year to orchestrating the transportation of massive amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine from the United States into Canada using long‑haul truckers.
Guramrit Sidhu, 63, ran a cross‑border network of truck drivers who made repeated trips through the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel, the Buffalo-Lake Erie Peace Bridge and the Blue Water Bridge, linking Port Huron, Mich., and Point Edward, Ont. The drugs originated in Mexico and were transferred to Los Angeles for distribution, where Canadians would co-ordinate the north-bound deliveries.

Ontario trucker sentenced 15 years for drug smuggling vanishes while out on bail

A man has been convicted of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing his wife in Abbotsford, B.C., just days after he arrived in Canada.
Jagpreet Singh was charged in the death of 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur, his wife of more than 20 years, who was found suffering from multiple stab wounds in her basement suite on March 15, 2024.
While Singh did not dispute causing the fatal stab wounds, he argued that he should only be convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter, telling the court he killed Kaur “in the heat of passion caused by sudden provocation.”

Toronto police are searching for a man who allegedly stabbed a victim in the back in an unprovoked attack over the weekend.
It happened on Sunday afternoon, at around 12:45 p.m., in the area of Danforth Avenue and Main Street.
B.C. police have issued an arrest warrant for Naila Sheikh, a former correctional officer in the province who documents appear to indicate was the case manager for a convicted gang murderer at the time of his brazen escape from the Port Coquitlam prison in July 2022.
Sheikh, who formerly worked as a correctional officer at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre, has been charged with breach of trust, personation with intent to gain advantage, and unauthorized use of a computer.
Documents obtained by CBC News appear to indicate that Sheikh was directly assigned as a case manager for Rabih Alkhalil, whose escape from the facility on July 21, 2022, is still under investigation.
