Toronto’s top doctor is recommending that the city drop its mask bylaw at the same time as the province, allowing the requirement to be lifted for most settings in less than two weeks’ time.
Toronto’s mask bylaw wasn’t supposed to expire until April 8 but in a report that is being considered by city council today, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa recommends that the bylaw be revoked as soon as the province lifts its mandate.
Ontario says 751 patients in hospital with COVID-19 as province moves to lift mask mandates
Data released by provincial health officials indicates that there are now 751 patients with COVID-19 who are receiving treatment in Ontario hospitals, down from 779 on Tuesday and 847 seven days ago.
This includes 241 COVID positive patients in intensive care, down from 273 last Wednesday.

Ontario reports lowest COVID-19 case count since testing restrictions began
Ontario reported its lowest COVID-19 case count on Monday since it significantly curtailed access to free testing, alongside four new deaths.
There were 1,074 COVID-19 infections confirmed through PCR testing across the province on Monday, the lowest number found in the province since access to testing was limited on Dec. 31, 2021.
Health officials have said eligibility limits mean the current system fails to find as many as 90 per cent of all infections.

Ontario reported 21 net new COVID-19 deaths on Sunday, as the number of patients in hospital fell again to levels not seen in more than two months.
The Ministry of Health said 17 of the deaths reported Sunday occurred in the past 30 days and four others occurred prior to that period.
There have been 140 deaths confirmed in the past week and 800 in the past 30 days.

Ontario reported 24 net new COVID-19 deaths on Saturday, with hospitalizations continuing a slow decline and test positivity of those eligible hovering under 11 per cent.
The Ministry of Health says 18 of the deaths confirmed today occurred in the past 30 days, whereas six others occurred prior to that period
253 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 78% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 22% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 1,930 new cases of COVID-19.
