After 25 years of planning, seven years of construction and months of delays, the first trucks are finally set to roll over the Gordie Howe bridge on Monday.
In tow will be some of the billions of dollars worth of goods that pass through the Windsor-Detroit corridor, which the bridge will help get to their destinations faster — saving time and money.
“There’s a tremendous opportunity here in dollar terms, but also in terms of what our future looks like, just embodied in that one bridge,” said Moshe Lander, an economics professor at Concordia University who studies international trade.
Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, recently found himself embroiled in a diplomatic tiff with Trump. Both Carney and Trump have a form of Tourette’s that I recognize all too well. When asked about the forest fires in Ontario, Mark didn’t hesitate in implicating Trump as the climate arsonist. Trump shot back that Mark would not be receiving his tariff deposit back for violating our smoke-free policy.
There is a comforting story I have heard people say for the past decade about our politics in Canada.
And it goes something like this. Canadians are different. We are practical and moderate. We do not get carried away by ideological movements or political strongmen. While other countries lurch from one political upheaval to another, Canada generally stays somewhere near the middle.
Just like how for decades people said we wouldn’t debate immigration. And that anti-immigration policy sentiment couldn’t come to Canada.
Canada is being torn apart, prepped for slaughter by the Liberal Party’s mass immigration of incompatible cultures.
Don’t for a second doubt our erasure is not deliberate.
