It’s a good thing the Liberal government has admitted a mistake in doling out grants to something called the Community Media Advocacy Centre (CMAC). But now the question becomes how broad of a problem are we dealing with here.

Housing, Diversity and Inclusion Minister Ahmed Hussen says the Department of Canadian Heritage will be improving its vetting process to make sure it doesn’t give money to organizations that espouse hatred — and those that do could be banned from future funding.

The Laith Marouf scandal, for that is emphatically what it is, of a fully public (it was all on Twitter, some on tape and film) antisemite receiving more than half a million taxpayers’ dollars from the government of Canada, caught even the laziest eye. I have observed it was a singular instance of “paying” the fox to raid the chicken house.

Two more students got involved. Allyn was beaten up pretty badly, and the three students were arrested.

I’m sitting in the audience of another Edinburgh fringe show. The month is in full swing and, as a reviewer, I’ve fallen into the pattern of rushing across the city from one venue to another to find my next seat. But, as I sit here, I have a growing sense of discomfort. Like the previous show, and the one before that, I’m the only person of colour in the audience.
There’s a job waiting for her in Ottawa.
