With a voter recall four months away, things aren’t going too well for San Francisco’s far-left District Attorney Chesa Boudin, whose office appears to now be a dumpster fire of controversies.

Thursday the news got out through court transcripts that a shouting match broke out in a courthouse, between Chesa’s staff and the lawyers of a witness, Magen Hayashi, who testified that Chesa’s D.A. office told her to withhold critical evidence that could have exculpated an officer in a police brutality case. The D.A.’s investigation of the matter neglected to mention that the cop in question was answering a domestic violence call and didn’t just start beating the suspect for no good reason. The officer’s defense team thought that relevant, and apparently, Chesa’s staff were intimidating the witness.

Well, it turns out things haven’t gone so good for wokester company Penzey’s Spices, which ran a “Republicans are racist” campaign for…I am not sure what purpose. It wasn’t business.

“You make it too easy for the criminals I let go as soon as they’re arrested to steal from you,” is a hell of a comeback.

Exactly five years ago, I was in Hue, Vietnam, the site of the Tet Offensive, an American victory that Walter Cronkite helped turn into a defeat. The Viet Cong eventually took over Hue and, said our guide, with tears in his eyes, “the revenge killings were terrible.” I thought of leftists on a rampage when I read about what the California Department of Social Services did to Foothill Christian Church Preschool in San Diego and to its director, Tiffany McHugh. The Viet Cong would have been proud of what was essentially a bloodless, but nevertheless highly effective, massacre.

Just a few months ago the Atlantic published a piece claiming that there was a group of conservatives preparing for a new civil war because the country was now so divided between the conservative right and the woke left. Since then, it seems the left is eagerly picking up on the civil war theme. 

Multiple fronts of resistance are taking shape

Over the past several decades, the progressive Left has successfully fulfilled Antonio Gramsci’s famed admonition of a “long march through the institutions”. In almost every Western country, its adherents now dominate the education system, media, cultural institutions, and financial behemoths.

But what do they have to show for it?

The Left is being consumed by its own hatreds and hubris.

Joe Biden, first as a candidate and then in the White House, from the outset saw the COVID-19 pandemic mainly as a means of leveraging political support, from the manner in which the lockdowns allowed him to run a virtual campaign from his basement to equating Donald Trump with the COVID-19 virus.

Like many on the Left, Biden was overt in such cynicism. So were Hillary Clinton, Gavin Newsom, and Jane Fonda—who claimed that COVID was a “never-let-a-crisis-go-to-waste” moment. Panic and lockdowns could help achieve single-payer health care, or a recalibrated capitalism, or the end of Donald Trump himself.

Last Thursday at 5:45 p.m., two gunmen opened fire on each other inside the Oak Brook Terrace Mall in Oakbrook, Ill. Oak Brook is a quiet suburb of Chicago in DuPage County, and any kind of violence involving guns used to be extremely rare.

Radical San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin came out Monday against Mayor London Breed’s new policy to expand police funding and declare a “state of emergency” in the crime- and drug-ravaged Tenderloin district downtown.

Boudin, the son of a convicted Weather Underground militant, was elected in 2019 on a promise to pursue criminal justice reform, like his predecessor, George Gascón, the George Soros-backed prosecutor who is now D.A. in Los Angeles County.
