The war between the US and Iran is “likely” to restart, a senior Iranian official predicted on the heels of comments by President Trump that the US might be “better off” without an agreement.

A “renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely,” said Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a high-level officer in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

On April 30, 2026, Israeli naval forces intercepted 22 vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters northwest of Crete, more than 1,000 kilometers from Gaza. The 58-boat fleet sailed from Barcelona with around 175 activists from dozens of countries. Israel disabled engines and communications to avert escalation, offered to route any real supplies through Ashdod for inspection, and released most participants to Greek authorities within 24 hours. Only two steering committee members faced transfer to Israel for questioning: Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Ávila.

This operation exposed the mission as theater. Israeli officials released footage showing that the humanitarian cargo consisted mainly of preservatives and drugs. These items offered zero relief for Gaza’s genuine needs.

Carney Trade Deal Pals China, India among countries active in foreign interference and spying in Canada, CSIS says

Canada’s spy agency says five countries, including China and India, remain the main perpetrators of foreign interference and espionage in this country despite all being singled out in a public inquiry into these activities.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service also identified Russia, Iran and Pakistan as countries that engage in foreign meddling and spying in Canada.

I am starting to believe that the Carney government allows these foreign powers free range for special considerations in return.

US to cut troop levels in Germany by 5,000 amid Trump spat with Merz

The US Department of Defence plans to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany, amid a spat between US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the war with Iran.

The decision comes a day after Trump criticised Merz, who suggested the US had been “humiliated” by Iranian negotiators.

In social media posts on Thursday, Trump said Merz was “doing a terrible job” and had “problems of all kinds”, including on immigration and energy. Trump has also suggested pulling US troops from Italy and Spain.

Brampton leads surge in Canada’s mortgage delinquencies

Brampton, a fast-growing city west of Toronto, is at the heart of Canada’s mortgage troubles as a growing number of homeowners miss loan payments and lenders force the sale of their homes.

The municipality has the highest mortgage delinquency rate among larger Canadian cities, according to data from Equifax Canada. And its rate of delinquencies – defined as at least 90 days of missed payments – has been rising at a faster pace than in the rest of the country.

Volodymyr Zelensky has scrapped open-ended military contracts to attract new recruits.

Ukraine’s army has consistently struggled with severe manpower shortages, with troops spending months at a time on the front line and recruiters dragging civilian men off the street to force them into service.

In an attempt to make the military more attractive, the Ukrainian president on Friday promised to increase soldiers’ pay and make it possible for them to be discharged after a set period.

Canada won’t ‘leverage’ energy, critical minerals in trade talks: PM

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Mark Carney is rejecting the notion that Canada might use energy or critical minerals as “leverage” in upcoming trade talks with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.

The prime minister made the remarks in an interview with The Canadian Press, his first since declaring he would enter federal politics more than a year ago.

Carney said he wouldn’t describe those sectors as “leverage” since Canada is not talking about stopping any sort of existing trade.

Iran offers new peace proposal to US but Trump ‘not satisfied’

Iran has passed a new proposal to Pakistani mediators in the latest effort to end the war with the US, but Donald Trump said he was not “satisfied” by it.

“Right now, we have talks going on, they’re not getting there,” he told reporters, adding that his options remained “either blast them away or make a deal”.

Trump did not elaborate on what he saw as the latest proposal’s shortcomings, but said: “They’re asking for things I can’t agree to.”
