The FBI has still not determined what motivated a gunman to try to assassinate former president Donald Trump at a July campaign rally in Pennsylvania, officials with the federal law enforcement agency said on a call with reporters Wednesday.

Federal officials sifted through five years worth of online activity for 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks and said they found no credible evidence that a foreign entity directed him to carry out the attack. Nor did they find credible material indicating that he worked with a co-conspirator.

Next they’ll claim Trump shot himself.

Here we go again. On Tuesday afternoon, special counsel Jack Smith filed a new indictment against Trump related to alleged interference in the 2020 election.

Secret Service agents detailed to Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, PA last month were specifically told by headquarters in Washington not to request any additional security for the outdoor rally where a sniper wounded the former president, and that if they made any request, it would be denied.

A sex offender who allegedly threatened to assassinate former President Donald Trump was busted in Arizona after a three-day manhunt — close to where the Republican presidential candidate had arrived to speak about the border crisis, according to authorities.

Robert Lee Syvrud, 66, was arrested during a traffic stop at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Cochise County — where Trump had arrived around noon as a guest of Sheriff Mark Dannels.

Since that time, Secret Service leaders have placed several members of the Pittsburgh Field Office on administrative leave, according to three sources in the Secret Service community.

Just before Donald Trump held a rally in Doral, Fla., on July 9, Secret Service officials delivered his campaign a message: The former president and his advisers would notice additional security because the U.S. government had credible intelligence of threats against him.

“The bad guys are at it again,” an adviser said, describing the Secret Service’s message.

Donald Trump is going to be sentenced to prison. It’s absurd, it’s unjust, and it’s another body blow to the idea that America is a free republic where dissent is not just tolerated, but welcomed, and any man can get justice, no matter the color of his skin, contents of his wallet, or nature of his political opinions. All that is dead now, or dying, and even though Trump is unlikely actually to serve time, the sentence is coming as inevitably as fall follows summer.
