U.S. blocked Canada’s abortion agenda at G7 negotiations

In the lead-up to this year’s G7 summit in Quebec, Canadian officials were explicit: women and children were going to be central, and an essential component of their health and empowerment is abortion. But when the final declarations were released, all language about “reproductive rights” was removed, and, according to Devex, “the U.S. delegation…was responsible for the softer official language.”

The president tweeted: “Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference, and the fact that Canada is charging massive Tariffs to our U.S. farmers, workers and companies, I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the Communique as we look at Tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!”

Trudeau aims for G7 to pick up fight against extreme nationalism

“Many countries and many citizens are questioning the current system, as seen by the emergence of extreme nationalism or right-wing populism, or (voicing opposition) to anti-globalization,” Trudeau said.

“This must be at the center of the discussions we will have at the G7: how to reassure citizens about the future we are building together,” he added in his parliamentary office in Ottawa.

“It is important that we remain vigilant and keep this order, this peace, this stability, this predictability that has helped us to create everything we have today.”

Trudeau aiming to make gender equality a major theme when Canada hosts G7 summit

The Liberal government is planning to make gender equality a major theme of its G7 presidency, which includes hosting the summit in La Malbaie, Que.

That would include putting the whole event through gender-based analysis, which involves thinking about how a certain policy might affect men and women, or boys and girls, in different ways, along with taking age, income, culture, ethnicity and other intersecting factors into account.

Germany steps up criticism of Donald Trump

Mrs Merkel, speaking at a conference on sustainable development in Berlin, reinforced Germany’s commitment to tackling climate change and said it was vital not to varnish over differences with allies.

Mrs Merkel did not specifically mention Mr Trump but quoted a 1963 speech by former President John F. Kennedy in Frankfurt, where he told the audience “those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.”

Trump acted like a ‘loud and tacky drunk tourist who steps on others without realizing’ during his meetings with foreign allies, claims State Department official

‘When it comes to diplomacy, President Trump is a drunk tourist,’ the State Department official told the Daily Beast. ‘Loud and tacky, shoving his way around the dance floor. He steps on others without realizing it. It’s ineffectual.’

The official, who has not been named, said that the United States should be ‘out front’ when it comes the Paris Agreement.

Not named because he doesn’t exist.
