OTTAWA — There is a noticeable decline in how trusting Canadians are of their leaders and institutions as the pandemic drags on, and it’s particularly striking among those who remain anxious or stressed about COVID-19, a new survey suggests.
“When we have 46 per cent of Canadians saying they still feel anxiety and stress, it’s taking a toll on trust in Canada,” said Bruce MacLellan, CEO of Proof Strategies.
Ontario reports 66 more COVID-19 deaths, 2,059 hospitalizations
Ontario reported 66 more COVID-19 deaths and just over 2,000 hospitalizations on Wednesday- more than a week after the province loosened some public health measures.
Sixty-five of the deaths occurred in the past month and one was added to the province’s cumulative death total due to a data cleanup, according to the Ministry of Health.
449 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 80% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 20% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 3,162 new cases of COVID-19.

“We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity,” GoFundMe wrote in the company’s Friday announcement that it would steal millions from the truckers participating in the “Freedom Convoy” to protest Canada’s Covid mandates, diverting the money “to credible and established charities chosen by the Freedom Convoy 2022 organizers and verified by GoFundMe.” After backlash, the platform announced it would instead refund the money to donors.

Earlier this month, I was on an overpass across highway 417, 50km west of Ottawa, to welcome one of the many Freedom Convoys heading into the capital. They were coming to protest against mandated vaccines for truckers but also Justin Trudeau’s Covid Regime in general. It was -25 celcius but that didn’t stop us from waving Canadian Flags tied to hockey sticks and screaming at the top of our lungs as the convoy from Western Canada slowly rolled into the city.

There’s a lot going on in the world right now. If you’re not Canadian, then the protest in Ottawa might not be top of your list of things to worry about. But I’m afraid you should be worried. You should certainly be paying attention. What’s unfolding in Ottawa is not a grassroots protest that has spontaneously erupted out of the frustration of local lorry drivers. Rather, it’s an astroturfed movement – one that creates an impression of widespread grassroots support where little exists – funded by a global network of highly organised far-right groups and amplified by Facebook’s misinformation machine. The drama may be centred in Canada, but what is unfolding has repercussions for us all.
