A Canadian woman of Chinese origin who was an intern at NATO’s military headquarters in Belgium has been arrested on spying charges, Belgian prosecutors said Saturday.
“She is suspected of spying on behalf of a third country and of being a member of a criminal organization,” the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

The country’s top spy agency says Natural Resources Canada approached it with concerns about former federal scientist Dennis Lu more than two decades ago, not the other way around — and has made a rare disclosure of one of its documents in court to set the record straight, CBC News has learned.
There are also new details about part of the reason for a 23-month delay between the last Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) briefing about Lu to his employer in February 2021 and the start of Natural Resources’ internal investigation into Lu in January 2023.

That is the warning at the center of a report published this week by the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and written by Brenda Shaffer, an energy and national-security specialist who teaches at the United States Naval Postgraduate School.

Like conventional warfare, it involves mobilizations and sophisticated operations and devastating weaponry that lays waste to entire industries.
OTTAWA — Canadian auto industry leaders panned Industry Minister Melanie Joly’s claim Monday that Chinese carmakers are interested in forming joint ventures to make electric vehicles with Canadian labour, parts and standards, and said Ottawa’s China push threatens Canada’s chances at getting a deal at the trade table with the United States.
As the July 1 deadline for renewal of the deal looms, and Ottawa is in the midst of a delicate dance with the Trump administration over how closely it is aligning with China, a trip in the past week by Joly to China accompanied by several mining, investment and business executives, but no Canadian carmakers, was seen as cause for concern.

OTTAWA — For the first time, a Federal Court judge has authorized Canada’s intelligence service to hack into privately owned routers, servers and household internet devices across the country and disarm the malicious software that conscripts them into foreign botnets — virtual armies implanted by hostile states to act as trojan horses, attacking critical Canadian infrastructure from within Canadian homes — a power the court itself acknowledged would otherwise be a crime.
Mark Carney’s industry minister, Melanie Joly, is in China trying to attract auto investment while Carney’s government attempts to kill off our existing auto industry. In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Joly explained how she wants Chinese-made electric vehicles to be built in Canada.
