In September the leaders of the world’s most powerful nations met in New Delhi for the annual G20 Summit to address such heady matters as the war between Russia and Ukraine, the future of energy production and the criticality of food security. The government is creating a rural carve-out for the carbon tax on home heating, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday.
The government will exempt home heating oil from the tax for three years, double the rural supplement in the rebate program and offer new programs Trudeau said will help rural Canadians switch to electric heat pumps.
“We have to fight climate change in a way that supports all Canadians,” Trudeau told a press conference.
